Dude is cutting it close. When does the voting end?

I feel like it takes some real time to not only get the orchestra to practice, but also...you know....write the orchestra parts. That, I feel, takes a while.

If he asked me, I would do it. I AM a classical composer after all, I know how to orchestrate a fucking four voiced work into a 12 even 20 staved large orchestra, piece of cake  :'(

Interesting choice of songs he gave us.  Great to see Stagnant in there; I hope that one makes it!

NOT MIGHTY MASTURBATOR?? I REPEAT NO MIGHTY MASTURBATOR??????????

What the hell Dev  :censored :censored :censored :censored :censored :censored :censored :censored :censored :censored

Let me get this straight, you're playing this show with an ORCHESTRA and you don't do The Mighty Masturbator or even Deconstruction???????? and that one even has deliberate Stravinsky-esque moments in it

I love you Dev, but:  :tdwn :tdwn :tdwn :tdwn

TMM is too hard and too long and we have a decent live version of it already. Let's hear something new.
Deconstruction is just too hard, not only for Dev but for Ryan as well.

I forgot what else I voted for. But Numbered better be on that setlist. It'll be so epic with the orchestra.

But this is a special show with an orchestra, it doesn't come by often.......

besides Masturbator and Deconstruction won't be as much of a challenge on the  actual orchestra as you may think. Combined it's only 25 minutes of music for the orchestra will play?

Eh, I used to like Deconstruction a ton, but not as much anymore.  I'd hate to see him waste 10 minutes of the set on that.

The Mighty Masturbator is awesome, but like Metropolaris said, it'd be a nightmare for the band to get it right on their own, much less having an orchestra synch up to it.  Too much potential for a trainwreck.

I was figuring that the Ocean Machine part was with Orchestra and the By Request was band only.

I think from reading Dev's post the whole thing is with an orchestra as mentions only a select few songs to choose from so the orchestra has time to learn them.

Looks like Devy is updating his facebook with new shows, seems a small tour of the US with Clutch.

I see December 28th in NJ.  I will try to make that show since I was too sick to attend his last NJ show earlier this year.

I wouldn't have put those two together on a lineup, they are pretty different. I love both bands though so I'd definitely go if I had the chance, I'd want to see Devin headlining though.

My first exposure to Devin Townsend was with Vai, and it was not positive in any sense.  I have stuck the toe in the water on a couple occasions, and it burned.  :)   Having said that, I like the guy.  I like reading the background on the various albums, and his honesty and (musical) integrity is pretty evident.  I want, so badly, to like the music, but...

Having said that, I listened to the snippets on his website of three songs from Transcendence (Failure, Secret Sciences, Stormbending) and was pretty impressed.  Are they indicative of the rest of the album?

There's the occasional grunt and extreme metal section in Higher but other than that, yes :)

Yea, that album is pretty stellar and consistent in terms of musical direction.  I totally understand how someone could listen to some Devin clips and be turned off though.

Failure might be one of the best songs he's ever written. The drums are so damn tasty in that one.

My favourite off the album as well, and it was mainly written by the other guys - not Devin.

I don't know, I like Transcendence a lot but I don't particularly think Failure stands out anymore than anything else. Stormbending is my favourite track and everything else is pretty much at the same level, just below Stormbending. Such a great album.

Failure isn't my favorite either, I think Secret Sciences may be or Offer Your Light.  The album is strong overall though, not a bad track.

I didn't know that. That's a mighty feat to pull off! Hats off to them. I love that song because it sounds HUGE. The chorus, man. Feels like Devy should be commanding the clouds to move around him atop a mountain. Epic. As. Hell.

I do *love* Offer Your Light though... Man, I just might have to play this record tonight at the gym. Good stuff!!

Gaia
Deadhead
Canada
Bad Devil
Higher

Surprised he left out Kingdom. It's been on every other live album/DVD and he plays it at every show, but I would have loved to hear it with the Orchestra.

lol why?  Weren't we all speculating all along they were playing along with OM and not sure if it would include the By Request?  Seems odd
