Devlab is basically horrible. The Hummer is better, very atmospheric, but it doesn't really interest me. Completely appreciate the albums as part of Devy's hugely diverse music portfolio (which still to this day blows my mind), but they're not really for me.

I don't think there's much of a difference between Devlab and The Hummer. I mean, the first 5 minutes of Devlab are obviously provoking, maybe even meant to filter out those who are just looking for a normal Devin record, but after that there are as much soundscapes as there are in The Hummer. The only main difference, for me, is that in The Hummer there's never really any tension, it just exists, whereas in Devlab it builds, and all that tension is released every now and then.

Holy crap :eek - I think it's the first time ever he performs it live, right?

On a side note, I was on Bournemouth during January, but nobody played there :( . I'm incredibly jelly.

If he plays them during the London show (which is going to be filmed) as well, I'll go crazy. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Cool...

The CoC boxset arrived in the mail. It's a wooden box that's really nice, smells good, and folds open.

The contents are:
The 2cd album
A wooden comb
The bone usb
A certificate of authenticity, numbered (mine wasn't numbered)
wooden sunglasses
And the lyric book

I'll post pics when I get the chance. It is really nice and worth the year long wait.

it's one of many gems on Ass-Sordid Demos I! totally worthy listen. the second one doesn't hold up nearly as well but has some diamonds in the rough for sure ("Cold" in particular, as well as another version of "Man" with an intro that became "Velvet Kevorkian!")!

Dark Matters and Sky Blue are getting released as standalone albums this summer... for some reason. Inside Out has preorders up. I guess if you prefer jewel cases?

sky blue is part of Z² so it can't be better than itself
it is better than dark matters though

Assuming by Z2 you mean Dark Matters, then I don't imagine that's in any way controversial.

I haven't listened to Dark Matters so I can't say, but Sky Blue is pretty good, especialy the title track.  That songs is really awesome.  Im going to have to start listening to Dark Matters though cause I thought the first Ziltoid album was pretty good.

Does anybody know if this Sky Blue release is being remixed/remastered? I was listening to Sky Blue on the headphones and it sounded a bit smashed (compressed), especially the drums, very squished...

You know looking back, I think Dark Matters should have been released by itself. The double album thing seems cool, but when half of Z2 doesn't actually have anything to do with Ziltoid, it doesn't make sense to release them together.
Sky Blue should have been held off until I think sometime this Summer. If only just to hold us over until the next big Devin project comes out. Whenever/whatever that is.

Guys.  GUYS.

GUYS.

Devin already wrote another DTP album: https://twitter.com/dvntownsend/status/624469585480261632

Quote from: Devin Townsend
I've written a dtp record during this last year that will probably come out first though. Next step from Sky Blue kind of deal...

Although him saying 'next step from Sky Blue' kind of makes me fear it's going to another album with the sound of Addicted, Epicloud and Sky Blue. I was hoping for something different this time. I like that sound, but for me, basically Addicted did it best and Epicloud and Sky Blue did it pretty well. Another album in that style would have to be done really well to still interest me.

Z2 is... decent, but it's just not interesting enough for me. It's actually one of my least favourite Devy albums. I like Sky Blue a bit more than Dark Matters, and I do sometimes still listen to the former. My next listen to Dark Matters will probably be the live version on the upcoming RAH DVD.

the problem I have with Dark Matters is that it took the "wacky" humor from Deconstruction (my least favorite part of that album), turned it up, and made the story more important than the music, unlike in Ziltoid and Deconstruction. the result is that I'm sick of the dumb story so I never want to listen to the album anymore. the songs weren't especially great either, everything after March of the Poozers is pretty forgettable honestly

Got the two single releases in the mail today, along with a shit-ton of Devin Townsend albums a few days ago. I always thought that only Sky Blue was considered DTP, but in the single releases, Dark Matters is too. Sorry for the shit picture quality, but I took them for any curious person who already bought the single pack last year.

Fucking crazy awesome news about a new DTP record and the idea that it's a progression from Sky Blue is even better. I really love the album but the title track is one of my favorite songs OF ALL THE TIMELINES. I cannot believe he's back at it already but I'm sure as hell not complaining; truthfully I halfheartedly hoped he'd not really slow the pace much, despite deserving however long a break he chose.

I love me some Dark Matters but I do like Sky Blue much more. Although in comparison to the first Ziltoid, for me they're about the same; DM would probably take it considering March of The Poozers is one of the greatest musical achievements mankind will ever have the immense pleasure of experiencing.

P.S. Thanks for sharing, Nel! I love the artwork of the albums and it's one of the main reasons I got the super deluxe whatever edition and it's one of the few (along with SW's Raven) that I'm truly happy with.

DTP says "WOW, LOOK AT THAT GREAT POST"
RIP DTP.
