I've always loved metal accompanied by an orchestra ever since I first heard Metallica's S&M. Not every song on that album works perfectly but the ones that do, by god, they add something magical to music which is already incredible!!

The Signature Edition of the Autiobiography is still delayed until the end of November, but they just sent out Download links for the Iceland EP and the bonus Cassette entitled "Ancient", as well as an eBook version of the book.  :metal

Meh. This metal band + orchestra thing is incredibly overrated.
And I don't like OM that much except for the last few songs. Plus all the good songs off the album were on the last DVD.

I'd be happier if he played Transcendence front-to-back + a by request set that didn't have any songs from the Royal Albert Hall DVD.

I dunno, when it's done right the band+orchestra thing works perfectly. OM is my favourite album by Dev and I wasn't at The Royal Albert Hall (I've seen the show of course but it's nowhere near the same as actually being there) so this would be worth all the money for me.

I personally don't think orchestra + rock/metal band has ever been pulled off well. I honestly think it's a waste of an orchestras time to simply be playing chords behind a band. I know people will hate this opinion, but I feel strongly about that.

The times Dream Theater have used a backing orchestra is no exception for me either, sorry to say

I like them. The song (''Crater") they did with the singer from Soilwork is great. The vocals are phenomenal.

When Devin's FB page announced tickets were available for the OM show, there were about 70 comments at the time I was reading them. At least 60 of them were people saying they ordered tickets, and I identified only one or two as Bulgarian. Who cares if he isn't locally popular :lol

Well, give them time :D Also, the show is a year off so people here will probably not get tickets so soon since the prices are a bit higher compared to some other shows. Cheapest ones are 45BGN (25$) and the most expensive is 80BGN (45$). For instance, Katatonia's show there was only in 2 sets of prices 22$ and 36$. I'm seeing Mike Stern and Dave Weckl in a different venue later this week at 28$. Average monthly salary being ~300USD.

But I don't really care, the most important thing is for the venue to be full :)

I meant it's not that big of a deal if he isn't popular in Bulgaria, other nationalities will apparently have their back :)

So Deep Purple have a new album coming out, and the cover art looks a little familiar..

Probably because Deep Purple are immensely famous and most people have no idea who Devin Townsend is.

I think it's just a shame that Devin Townsend is potentially so under the radar that no one even realised how similar it was!  :tdwn

Yea, that is really cool. But on the grand scale of worldwide musical notoriety that doesn't mean that much I guess. Do Deep Purple (as a band and their management) know who Devin is? Possibly not, that's a shame. I think it is likely coincidence and not a blatant rip off, but who knows

btw, that's a pretty cool top 20. Don't agree with all of it but there's some cool albums in there.

Yea, he certainly isn't a big name in the music industry overall, but I was suprised to see his album top that list with much bigger known bands.  Was thinking maybe that helps him with publicity.

Wow. That's very close to his logo, and I don't think it's completely coincidence, either. Someone involved may not recall seeing Devin's logo before,
but I would bet anything they did and were inspired by it.

I'm not at all surprised by Devin's reaction to it, and honestly, it only adds to his coolness. I believe he could have had a legitimate claim.

Devin and Gojira on the same bill. Fuck. Gojira is another band I am totally late to the party on. I had never really listened to them, but gave the "Magma" album
a listen in September and was blown away. (even though a lot of long time fans seem to be shitting all over it)

Just bumping this to say that I've been listening to Transcendence the last few days, and am really loving it! I know I enjoyed it when it first came out, but I guess I was busy with other stuff and didn't give it too many listens, and it didn't really sink in.

I wasn't super thrilled with most of Z2/Sky Blue, and I guess I wondered if Devin's stuff going to continue be something that I'd think was good, but not incredible, but I am pleased to say that is not the case! Transcendence (song) and Offer Your Light are particularly great, but the whole album is really fantastic.  :metal

edit: managed to misspell 'transcendence' twice, lol

Yea I listened to it the other day as well and it is still really good IMO.  I'm so glad to have been able to see Offer Your Light live, that was an amazing experience.

I'll echo and agree; still spinning it a lot and it's an album I can listen to all the way through and love the whole thing, though some more than others. The bonus disc is awesome as well.

DTP says "WOW, LOOK AT THAT GREAT POST"

It's by far my favorite out of all the bonus discs in his collection. "Gump" is the first track, and just kicks ass right out of the gate.

"Farther On" is really good, too.
