Your Favorite DT One-Liners?
« on: October 29, 2014, 12:22:14 PM »
What are your favorite DT one-liner lyrics?

By one-liner, I mean a single line or quick phrase. Something short and concise, yet either manages to inflect a bold statement, something that is worded cleverly, or just something that stands out for any reason.

A few that come to my mind:

"Never come near me again, Do you really think I need you?" - Space Dye Vest

This lyric gives me goosebumps every time. The way James says it, paired with the dark tone of the song, is so powerful.

"Once I reached for love but now I reach for life."  - Learning To Live

I've always heard that LTL was about AIDS...was this officially clarified? If it is about AIDS, this line is particularly powerful. Someone dying of a disease, who used to strive to find love like any normal person would. But someone who now needs to switch their perspective away from human wants, and must focus on reaching for life....trying to stay alive amidst a life-threatening disease.

"Her ecstasy means so much to me..."

I mainly love this lyric because of how it sounds. It occurs during the brilliant chorus of Home, and the lyric has just always stuck in my head. Likely because of how it rhymes, and possibly because the word "ecstasy", especially back in 1999 when it came out, naturally drew attention because the drug ecstasy was all over the news and pop culture.

I'll add more when they come to me.

What are your favorites?

Great one!

I have a feeling a lot of these will end up coming from I&W and Awake. Something particularly awesome about their way with words in the early years.

"Does this voice the wounds of your soul?"

"And I don't need your sympathy (or mercy fuck) to get me through the day."

"God, give me the power to take breath from a breeze and call life from a cold, metal frame."

"Unbroken spirit, obscured and disquiet finds clearness this trial demands."

To name a few. But yeah, there's definitely more.

Forgot about Misunderstood lines! Both of those lines are awesome. Especially the second one, since it crescendos up into the chorus.

I also really love "It challenges the essence of my soul" from the verse. Just a really cool line.

Oh man, there's so many moments that have stood out at different points in time. Sometimes it takes a while before you even understand a passage or have a way to interpret it, but all of these have been impactful one-liners for me at one point or another (and hopefully haven't been mentioned yet, a bunch of my favourite lines have already been mentioned and I'll probably end up thinking of more so here's a few off the top :lol):

"Living comes much easier, once we admit we're dying".

"Voices repeating me, feeling threatened we reflect your hopes and fears".

"The rivers current slowly turns the stone".

"Seven stars, the rising sun, a perfect world where new life has begun".

"Like reflections on the page, the world's what you create".

"Feed the illusion you dream about".

"I know it's easier, to walk away than look it in the eye".

"Responsible, unless you are incapable".

"You look but cannot see, Talk but never speak, You live but cannot breathe, See but don’t believe".

"I will not grow in the light until I pass through the darkest caverns of my heart"

"Cover my eyes and tell me, am I really blind?"

When I saw the title, I thought this was about DT jokes.

Anyway, one of my favourite lyrics is: "We suffered far too long/We gather now, growing stronger"

I know it was written in the wake of the 2011 revolutions, but I think of it as well as an anthem for the fanbase. We all must stand strong and unite against the critics of DT.
