Always nice to see some ELP in Top 50, good pick here.

49. Trout Mask Replica – Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band (1969)

So yeah, this is definitely one of the weirder entries in my list.

Yeah, I mean, just look at this cover.  :lol
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

It's probably with weirdest album I've ever heard. Like, it almost seems as just pure improvisation and playing with the instruments. Or it might actually be that :lol .

In some songs, that's exactly what it is. ;)
In terms of "weirdness", there might only be one other album on my list that beats this one out.
Ok, I'm following now.  Any list that include THE is worthy of following.  Never did get into Gentle Giant, but Fragile is of course from the best year that ever made rock music (awaits Kev and Jaq argument for 1976).

Another great 3. Gentle Giant is really amazing and Free Hand was very close to making mine. Yes had a few albums I'd consider close.

Not a fan of Metallica ;D . But that GYBE! album is bloody good - even in the calm sections there's always something interesting going on. With Laughing Stock pendent, it's time to give it a listen.

That Mono record has such a unique beauty. Haven't listened to Ashes Against the Grain in while. And the electronic album seems interesting :coolio .

Some might scoff at the idea of an album being almost entirely made of samples, and some might condemn it as uncreative.

Ironic that Since I Left You, while made of samples, is the total opposite of being uncreative  :tup

Zeppelin IV is far too low.     The remaster (just got it last week) is really nice, cleans up a handful of things, and makes the album fresh again (not like it went stale or anything), but it's like the difference of a 1971 Corvette, and a 2014 Corvette Stingray.  Love it.

I haven't gotten myself the remaster yet, but I love what they did with the prior three so I'll definitely get to it soon. :tup

Late for the party, but those are some amazing updates. Kudos especially for AATG, RIP and HTTIW. I was never a fan of Captain Beefheart though, and that album is just a mess, but I'm looking forward to future updates nevertheless.

The I heard Spiderland was the first post-rock album, I didn't expect it to be that... weird. I don't even know how it is even related to post-rock.

Post-rock refers to less of a particular style of sound and more of a style of method. For example, both Spiderland and Talk Talk's Spirit of Eden are considered some of the first post-rock albums out there, yet stylistically they sound as if they belong on the opposite ends of a pole--the first coming more out of post-hardcore and the latter coming more out of new wave and jazz. Post-rock mainly refers to using rock instruments for "non rock" purposes. I'm no guru in the genre, so there's definitely people out there with more knowledge than myself about it all, but it would certainly fit the criteria if we're considering post-rock a genre by itself.

Interesting, but isn't that the point of Noise rock?
