Seneca's Roulette v2 (And the Winner Is...)
« on: October 10, 2014, 01:51:11 PM »
I don't know what's up with the three people on top of the list, but right now we only have two roulettes running and Nekov's has been done for more than a week. So unless any of them object, I'm going to go ahead and start my thread.

I've been playing in almost every roulette recently, so this should be a nice change of pace. I'm going to do this a little differently than I did last time, and focus predominantly on older music. I was born about 20 years ago and didn't really get into intensive music-listening until I discovered DT a few years ago. Since then, music has become my most unrelenting obsession. I've discovered a ton of great bands, a lot of them here on DTF, and fully expect to keep that up. However, being so new to it all, I haven't been exposed to nearly as much old stuff. That's where this roulette comes in. I might change it up for the last couple rounds, but for the majority of this roulette, I will only accept pre-90s music.

Instead of giving you a list of off-limits bands (since most of those are more recent), I'm going to compile a list of my favorite bands. These are bands that would work if I was playing with myself but had dissociative identity disorder (picture that). A lot of these bands I've only heard one or two albums from. If that's the case, I'll identify which ones I've heard and if you think they've released stuff that is vastly different you can try sending it. I do discourage that though, simply because I want to get music that I'd be less likely to check out on my own.

Billy Joel
Black Sabbath
Bob Dylan
Bob Marley
Bob Seger
Bruce Springsteen
The Cars
Cat Stevens
The Cure (Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me & Disintegration)
Dio (Holy Diver)
Dire Straits
Electric Light Orchestra (Out of the Blue)
Eric Clapton
Fleetwood Mac
Genesis
Iron Maiden
Jethro Tull (Thick as a Brick)
John Lennon
Journey
Joy Division
King Crimson (Red & ITCOTCK)
Led Zeppelin
Marillion
Megadeth
Metallica
The Moody Blues
Neil Young
Nick Drake
Pete Townshend (Empty Glass)
Queensryche (Empire & O:M)
Quiet Riot
REO Speedwagon
Rush
Savatage
Scorpions
Steely Dan
Styx (The Grand Illusion)
Supertramp
Triumph (Just a Game)
Yes

And if you just want to get a more comprehensive (but not complete) view of what my tastes look like, here's a link to my first roulette with its list: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=40831.0

I'm not sure who is actually hosting now, but I'll definetely follow this roulette. I'd play as well if I actually knew some pre-90s music, but my musical education is definetely lacking in that regard :P ( Unless you want me to send classical music only, that is ::) )

Of course not  :)

If I can get at least another 3-5 more people we'll be set, and start as soon as a slot opens up.

I'm your fogey huckleberry!

:huckleberry:

I shall defend my crown!

But, as you stated in zzyz's thread, let him go first (since he's technically ahead of you on the waiting list). Seems as though obfuscation is back and ready to host as well, so this one might be waiting a few weeks to start - especially at the rate Doc's roulette is going.

Fair enough. I just figured that after more than a week had elapsed since Nekov finished his roulette someone needed to at least threaten to jump the top of the line.

So long as everyone is content to wait the current batch of roulettes out with me, we'll be ready to go as soon as my official turn comes up. Until then, we have the following 6 gentlemen planning on participating:

Elite
GentlemanofDread
Scorpion
kingshmegland
LieLowTheWantedMan
jingle.boy

I'd like to get a couple more, but no rush (obviously).

No, you're bang on... and if you'd started a few hours earlier, you'd be up.  But, zyzz and Obfuscation finally piped up.

Lookin forward to this one.  Love the pre-90s theme.  Already mapping out my options.

Given his age and 'banned' list, we aren't going to need to dig very deep.

I may consider this since it's only pre 90's.
Seneca, if you need a Fogey, I can probably do this.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

If you need people, you can call on me, but this isn't my wheel house so I might run out of good stuff if people take too many of my songs.  However, I can always send Deathtrain.  Man, it's been a while since I got to send Deathtrain in a roulette.

Who would know pre 90s music better than The Nature Boy?  If you are worried about my feelings (which I have none), I have an idea or two that would allow me to participate without participating.
