Yeah, he didn't answer anything Portnoy-related but there is a lot of insightful stuff to be read. I enjoyed reading about how he keeps focus on stage, his willingness to do a soundtrack in the future, and the fact that he's a Disney fan.

Hmm.. wants to do a soundtrack.. Disney fan.. are you guys thinking what I'm thinking?

Is it true that one knob on your guitar controls the rotation of the earth?
Can you shred faster than the speed of light?

Yes it's all true, I have to be very careful when handling my guitars.

I liked the one guy's suggestion that Steven Wilson produce a DT album. I think an objective ear would be great for the band.

Objective beard?

That's the one I'm most interested in. When he was at his peak, say circa 2010, it looked like he could put up some massive numbers.

My question about how much he can bench got downvoted :-(

Probably because it wasn't music related..... on an ASK ME ANYTHING forum.

I think some people just down vote things for the hell of it, especially on youtube videos.

Strange format (regarding having to click on context every question) but overall pretty good questions...I wonder if his Disney answer means he has the Frozen song stuck in his head....Let it Go  Let it Go!

Illumination Theory..I have it on right now.. It was great to hear JP say he loves to play it each night.....for me 13 mins is a long time to wait for a JP solo or the even better one at 18 mins......from 19 mins it is quite beautiful ..it is growing on me...

Thanks for posting the link to the interview!  :corn

I should have began my question with "As a fellow weightlifting guitarist..."

It's too bad because people want unique interviews with fun questions but when they get the chance to actually ask their own questions it's always the same old trash he's already answered a million times... Solo album, LTE, relationship with Portnoy, etc. At least there were a few interesting questions out of this bunch.

Huh? It has an awesome ending. Maybe there's a problem with your CD. You really should buy it rather than downloading it off Kazaa.

This was great. I wish JP had time to answer more questions, because his responses were fun. Were there any notable hard hitting questions he didn't answer? I only looked at JP's comments via Kotowboy's direct link.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

I'm disappointed in the lack of indonesia comments.
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I actually downloaded a torrent of Images and Words back in 2006 (when I was first getting into the band), and in the description it said "the first song is corrupt", so when I listened to it, sure enough the song cut off at the end. I faded it out, and that was what I listened to for a while. Then I discovered DT.net, and found out it was supposed to be that way. :lol

Of course, had I listened closer, I would have heard it didn't actually "cut off", but the torrent description said so, and I was a DT noob.

The first time I ever heard DT was when my friend gave me a burned copy of Images and Words. I absolutely loved it, but I thought he burned it wrong since PMU cut out abruptly, so I went out to buy it not too long after. You can imagine my surprise when I heard the actual CD version.

I'd much prefer if more people in bands were like this.

Less of the usual :

" When our fucking album drops - it's gonna cause tidal waves around the world coz it's so fucking heavy. You'll shit your fucking pants mother fuckers. "

Well, there was a question about his sex tape.
