Prince Appreciation thread
« on: October 01, 2014, 07:39:14 PM »
In celebration of his new two albums that just dropped, I wanted to make a thread in celebration of the purple one.

I love this guy. Hands down one of my favorite musicians ever.

Any other fans?

Don't know his albums. Fucking love virtually every single of his. Raspberry Beret is awesome as is Little Red Corvette. My first exposure to new music by him while actually already knowing about him was Cream (YELLOW GUITAR!) and Diamonds and Pearls and those are both awesome.

I have yet to connect with his stuff. What's a quintessential album to listen to?

yes, I am a fan and enjoy his music on a somewhat casual level (beyond Purple Rain and his 80's singles).

I even was lucky enough to meet him once.

I think most people would list Purple Rain as the definitive Prince album to get, which I agree its pretty damn good, but It took me some time to get into.

Personally I would recomend these two.

1. Symbol (from 1992)
2. The gold experience (from 1995)

Very decent albums and fairly accessible.

I was working in a music shop way back in 1998 I think it was and he released the triple album "Emancipation" as he thought it would fulfil the remaining three albums on his contract with Warners.

It didn't. :p

Besides Purple Rain, I really enjoy Lotusflow3r. It might be a bit too bluesy for a lot of forumers though.

His catalog is so huge that anyone should find something they like.

Most say Purple Rain and Sign "☮" the Times.

I'm not a huge fan, although I enjoy some of his classic albums and some more recent, modern R&B singles ("Black Sweat").

Listened to both new records (PLECTRUMELECTRUM and ART OFFICIAL AGE). They're great!
