What's up with the audio on Breaking the Fourth Wall???
« on: September 30, 2014, 04:04:40 PM »
Very tinny sounding, lots of echo, somewhat muddy, not much low end. To me, it reminds me of a classic 70's album like Yessongs or Welcome Back My Friends... that is, before albums were recorded right from the soundboard.

Granted Luna Park did not sound great, this sounds a bit more like what I'd expect from an audience bootleg. Very strange.

I think what's really strange is that there are two camps; the ones that see it as tinny and no low end, and the ones that consider it great. Is it the difference between the CD and the DVD audio? I was personally somewhat taken aback by the The Enemy Inside when listening to it on Spotify; at least in the beginning it sounds as if you're sitting next to the drums, and JP is piped through computer speakers.

I gave my thoughts on the other thread; I'm in the poor mix boat. Stunning performance though.

The fact the different people are hearing different things are testament to the fact it's been mixed poorly, a good mix should sound consistently well balanced no matter what system it's played on.

Yeah, same here.  Listening to TEI on Spotify now and the sound is just... odd.

Who mixed the record?

I have only listened to the Spotify version, and have not watched the film yet or seen the credits. But from my experience Spotify versions of things usually sound just as good as the CD. Listening to this I will not believe Shirley was involved unless proven otherwise.

it sounds as if you're sitting next to the drums, and JP is piped through computer speakers.
Perfect description.

We already have a thread for this.
