Their best album, and one of my favourite albums ever :tup

I remember getting it for Christmas in '95. Oasis were musical heroes of mine during that period when I was a teenager. I still think their best period is 1994-1998.

I'll be buying the rerelease, along with the first album's rerelease. The record store was selling vinyl singles of "Some Might Say", and they come with a $2-off coupon, so I'll see if I can use that. If not, I'll buy it anyway. I own every Oasis album, but some of the cds are gonked, so I don't mind double-dipping for newer versions.

I may do eventually. It is one of my all time favourite albums.

But Spotify will suffice until then.

I like the Noel only version of Some Might Say.

Also it sounds like "Remastered" in this case doesn't just mean louder and more treble. :tup

Yes Be Here Now and Shoulder Of Giants weren't the best and Heathen Chemistry showed a glimmer of hope. I think Don't Believe The Truth is their 3rd best album. A great return to form.

Also - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds is also a cracking album. I can't wait for his next one.

Be Here Now is pretty good but it has layers upon layers upon layers with distorted guitars. It's like a wall of sound. Lots of coke and partying in the studio dragged that album down.

And Noel has said that he wish they didn't do the Giants album.

Every oasis album that came out - I loved it immediately and then they usually revealed their true colours - except for Definitely Maybe, Morning Glory and the final two.

I thought the sequencing was weird on Heathen Chemistry. I'd have removed " A Quick Peep " and replaced it with " Thank You For The Good Times "

and also i'd have included the full band version of " Songbird ".

It's like by that time they were putting better songs on B sides for the sake of it. I Think HC suffered as a result whereas MG was outstanding even without The Masterplan or

Acquiesce on it.

:o Although can you imagine if MG did have those two songs on ?! Imagine the Masterplan finishing side 1 and Champagne Supernova finishing side two.

I guess these days with iTunes you can do that but at the time the album would have been like  :eek how can they top this !?

I was a HUGE oasis fan. Like properly huge. But even when I listened to BHN I could tell it was getting a bit samey. It wasn't until DBTT that I felt like they were properly back.

And Alan was *easily* their best drummer. By Miles.

Yeah, those are brilliant songs (especially The Masterplan) and it would have made the album even more awesome. Noel to this day regrets that it ended up as a mere B-side.

I'm looking forward to Noel's next album. It'll certainly be better than whatever Beady Eye come up with

Beady Eye's first album sounded exactly like the last two oasis albums' songs that Noel Didn't write and they were always the weakest.

I didn't really try the 2nd album but the singles didn't do much for me and Liam is still a twat.

METALLICA's LARS ULRICH: 'OASIS Has Been The Soundtrack To My Life For The Last 20 Years'

Link: https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/metallicas-lars-ulrich-oasis-has-been-the-soundtrack-to-my-life-for-the-last-20-years/

Quote
In a recent column in the UK's The Guardian, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich wrote about the "huge impact" English rock band OASIS has had on him throughout the years.

"OASIS has been the soundtrack to my life for the last 20 years on this wonderful planet," he said. "I have stories and pictures in my mind that go along with everything, from the first time I heard particular songs and read certain articles, to hearing about the band's shenanigans and festivities. And fortunately, I have enjoyed my fair share of crossing paths and sharing space with the fellas over the years. But most of those stories are probably best left for a night of tall tales, half truths and vivid imaginations. However, I will say that doing the lights for them at a club show in the spring of '95 at some God forsaken hole in the wall in Nowheresville, New Jersey, was a distinct highlight of my early encounters. They didn't have a crew guy to run the light board, and I was the only one in the building that knew the songs."

Back in July, Ulrich revealed in an interview with the UK's Mirror that he quit using cocaine 10 years ago with the help of ex-OASIS guitarist and good pal Noel Gallagher. Ulrich explained, "In the early days, I'd always get drunk way faster than the other guys. I realized that if there was a little bit of cocaine involved I could stay up longer, instead of ending up face down in the corner passed out three hours before the party ended. I loved the social elements of cocaine. I loved the danger of it. Then about 10 years ago, I read an interview with Noel Gallagher, in which he said, 'I just stopped doing cocaine.' I thought that was really cool: it felt so fresh, so honest, so pure — I love that side of him. I've never had an addictive personality, so I woke up one day and said: 'enough.'"

In a 2006 interview with Exclaim!, Gallagher stated about Ulrich: "Although he's a fookin' geezer and I do love him, he's a strange character. A strange, strange man."

Noel also recalled a time when Ulrich came to see OASIS perform live. "We tune our own guitars up because we're still capable of doing that — and he was like, [adopts perfect Ulrich accent] 'F-Fuck, you know, you know you guys should really fuckin' get one of your fuckin' road crew to tune your guitars. The fuckin' spaces in between the songs are too long," Noel said. "And it's just like, "Look man, I don't know if anyone's ever pointed this out to you before, but you're the fookin' drummer in METALLICA. Now you fookin' get on with that and leave the rest of it to us."

METALLICA is currently working on material for its tenth studio album, tentatively due in 2015.

Just bought it and the first album's 3-disc reissue. Really nice packaging on these. I'm guessing since songs from The Masterplan album are appearing as bonus tracks, that album isn't getting the reissue treatment.

Also, that's a really cool story, Mebert. I didn't know they were friends.

It may be but I can't remember... I'll have to go looking.

Shoulder Of Giants could do with the deluxe treatment - there were some great B sides from that era like Let's All Make Believe and One Way Road.

If they do Be Here Now - they should give it the " Let It Be " treatment and strip it all down to two guitars. Un-master it if anything :lol

EDIT : Found it : https://twitter.com/oasis/status/438634175487545345

I'm only gonna get (WTS)MG anyway. i don't need an even LOUDER version of Be Here Now !!

Posted today on Noel's Facebook:

"Just announced Noel's new album 'Chasing Yesterday' and new single 'In The Heat Of The Moment' are available to pre-order now from https://store.noelgallagher.com"

The single is available on November 17 and the album is out on March 2 next year according to his Twitter.

Saw that ! I set my twitter to notify me whenever his account tweeted and he announced it at 3pm GMT :)

Can't wait ! Sounds like it's going to be great and i'm glad he kept the High Flying Birds name. Gives the albums a uniformity.

First single Nov 17 ! I wonder what it'll be like. Whether it'll be as different to the first album as " The Death Of You And Me " was to Oasis.

Yes it was. I'd put it up with Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory it's so good.

( just FYI - i'd also put Don't Believe The Truth in the top tier too ) .

Since we all enjoy a damn good ranking here on DTF :zydar:

1. Definitely Maybe / Whats The Story Morning Glory .  - Can never decide between them. They're both excellent albums.
2. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds / The Masterplan / Don't Believe The Truth. - Also great .
3. Dig Out Your Soul - not a bad way to end.
4. Heathen Chemistry - showed some promise after the Shoulder of Giants album.
5. Be Here Now. - the sound of treading water.
6. Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants. A few great songs ( Go Let it Out, Gas Panic, Who Feels Love, Roll It Over ) but a lot of clangers.

Beady Eye - Different Gear - Still Speeding. Just woeful imo.

Ranking, you say?

1. (What's The Story) Morning Glory
2. Definitely Maybe
3. The Masterplan
4. Be Here Now

5. Heathen Chemistry
6. Don't Believe The Truth
7. Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants
8. Dig Out Your Soul

I did them in tiers because the first four are brilliant/excellent, and then there was a significant drop in quality after 1998 with the last ones IMHO.

I almost agree with you but I thought that DBTT was a huge return to form and DOYS was decent too.

DOYS was almost a top tier album but the band written songs aren't up to much.

No more BE??  Huh, too bad, their last one was pretty good.  Liam's voice was sounding so much better.

Couldn't care less about Brown Eye.

Although now the oasis reunion rumours are going to be interminable ::)

Even though Noel said many , many times he won't and that he'd only ever do it if he badly needed the money - and he clearly doesn't.
