Trailer for the Almanac for everyone except Tim.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3vH8iOYIeo

I'm hoping it's as heavy as they are saying.  Can't hear much heavier stuff from the samples but as long as it's quality, it will be sweet.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Any Lord/Dungeon fans will dig this.  They've uploaded a live video of the classic Netherlife live from ProgPower.  Quality, would love a full show.

Coming November  :metal     Apparently quite a bit heavier than the debut

:2metal:

I second this.  :2metal: :2metal:

It was most excellent.   :P

Never bothered with this last time, not sure why.
I see David Redman is involved. Will check it out.

I have never heard that Heart track.  By the sounds of it, Tom and Alex didn't playing anything on this track.

If this is the only new thing on this, I don't need it.  None of their albums really suffer from any production issues to me, bar maybe New Religion so I can't see what they can offer here.

EDIT: 4 new songs, including this one.  Only has songs from New Religion forward.  Talk about a cash grab from Frontiers!

Best Of Fear" track listing:

CD1

01. Area 16 (new song)
02. Predator (new song)
03. If Looks Could Kill (new song)
04. Thrill Of Speed (new song)
05. The End Is Near
06. Strike
07. Sign Of Fear
08. In Metal We Trust
09. When Death Comes Knocking
10. Six Times Dead
11. Angels Of Mercy
12. Unbreakable
13. Riding The Eagle
14. Rulebreaker
15. King For A Day
16. Bad Guys Wear Black

CD2

01. Every Time It Rains (feat. Simone Simons)
02. We Walk Without Fear
03. Fighting The Darkness (long version)
04. Hands Of Time
05. One Night In December
06. The Sky Is Burning
07. Where Angels Die
08. Black Rain
09. Born With A Broken Heart (feat. Liv Kristine) (remix)
10. Born Again
11. The Man (That I Don't Know)

It's a cash grab for sure but I'm not going to lie, amazon might as well already bill my visa.

I think I'll have to listen to that Heart cover a couple more times, it didn't grab me right off the bat. I still consider it to be solid though!

I can't remember exactly what Brent said in regards to the new Accept but remember I think he mentioned it was pretty good except for that Koolaid song, and I've had a few listens and I have to agree.  I actually would go as far to say it's bloody excellent.

The shitty Koolaid song isn't as bad when it's with the album and there's another one, the Analog one which is pretty cheesy but still doesn't make you cringe as much as the former, but everything else here is some of the strongest tunes they have produced with the new Mark era.

A lot of great, memorable melodies, Wolf's guitar work has stepped up and the riffs are cracking.  A lot heavier and more metal than Blind Rage and there's even a lot here that sounds like later Megadeth style.  Good stuff, might have to pick up a copy if JB stocks it.

Also, I am definitely enjoying the new Accept. Some very tasty licks on this.
This second life of Accept has been very satisfying. It doesn't have the range of 80's Accept, but these are solid releases. And by solid, I mean  :metal

I rated the Accept 85% which I think is about right -  plenty of strong tracks with 2 or 3 standouts and 1 stuff up means it can't get much higher.

About the same score as that Fun track from Tim's roulette , so it must be good  ;D  To be fair it sounds like something out of the 50's or 60's and trying to appeal to the host's childhood is often smart roulette-ing . :)

As far as 2017 goes I am becoming more positive by the day at the moment.  I am finally getting through some of the albums that I set aside earlier in the year to "check out later" and I actually unearthed a whole lot of pretty cool (and very obscure) stuff I had forgotten about.  It's going to take some time to get through it all but there might be a pretty strong Top 20 or 30 in amongst them.

Listening to an advance of the new Nocturnal Rites...........I hate to say it Kade but I am really getting sick of this style of power metal.    If you liked the new Pyramaze (which I thought was just okay) then this is more of the same.

Between these guys, Pyramaze, Thunderstone etc.........it's all becoming a blur.   Muddy, bass heavy , compressed to hell with plodding riffs , big choruses that sound very familiar etc..........maybe it's just me but this is becoming like a heavy version of the Devecchio bubblegum factory.

Ouch man!  haha.  Yeah, I really liked the new Pyramaze, I thought like the one before it had the heaviness and the melodies with a slight edge, but I can see why you are saying what you're saying though.

Have we actually finally heard it all perhaps?

I am actually beginning to find some cool stuff out of 2017 but it's all from no name bands and/or archive releases.  It's amazing the difference just a few half original riffs/melodies makes to me.  I dunno - you would think after a lengthy break that a band like Nocturnal Rites could come up with something that sounds even the slightest bit different?

The sound is a big issue that makes it seem far worse than it is perhaps.  There is zero texture , zero clarity of rhythm guitar sound,  zero variation between songs in terms of sound (at least the Pyramaze had a soft piece where the guitars disappeared and all of a sudden there was some sound clarity) etc..........

I listened to Pyramaze and NR back to back (mistake) and I was over both albums half way through.   On my normal song by song ratings the Pyramaze got around 80 and NR maybe high 70's but these are albums where (for me at least) the album is worth less than the sum of the parts as everything just blurs.

I'm very interested in finding out down the track the gems from this year you have found.  I simply don't have the time or care factor to go around looking, but I'm sure another podcast will do all the work for me.  ;D :tup

It's strange, I thought the addition of Per Nilsson would alter their sound a little.

I thought I would be able to forget a Best of 2017 show (or do it in 5 mins ) but maybe not  ;D

As far as power metal goes (and I've never been a big fan) I thought the Firewind was far stronger than either the Pyramaze or Nocturnal Rites.  At least it felt like they had a go at something half original - sounded better too.

Immortals was excellent, but I still liked Contingent better.

And I think at this point, Brent has heard it all.  I'm going to sample about a dozen or so of the albums/bands that were posted in the PPUSA forum as their house music.  They had a lot of bands I already knew/had (Mindmaze, Pyramaze, Firewind etc..), but about 20 that I didn't.  That's going to be the limit of my new search until the best of 2017 podcast.

hint hint; nudge nudge; wink wink.   ;) ;D
