Nah, I'm happy enough with James doing the lot. I love his voice, always have.
If they'd used different voices it would've had to have been done under a different name than DT.

Maybe it should have been a pe truck / Rudess project.

Were you a fan of the Winter Rose songs?

I should be, it's my kind of stuff but it just never did it for me.

Agreed. Something was just missing from those songs. James' voice was killer on one of the bootlegs I have from them though.

I don't understand the talk of James altering his voice dependant of the character.  Sounds the same to me.

If I listen hard enough, I do hear some very subtle changes.  Faythe is soft and smooth; Nafaryus is a little gargly; Gabriel is a smooth too, but a little more masculine.

I have no idea how he's going to pull this off live.

I think the whole line of promo that James changed his voice for each character was overrated. There are some subtle changes at times, but it's a bit inconsistent at times. Faythe is soft and smooth, but not in the last song. Nafaryus is gargly on Savior In The Square, but not in Lord Nefaryus, where he sounds like Freddie Mercury.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

And BTW, though Freddie Mercury's voice is a curious choice for Lord Nefaryus, that song kicks all kinds of ass. Easily one of my favorites. The Queen vibe is incredible.

Fixed! Thanks White Out Man! ;D

I am convinced that king is doing most of the voices in here at the moment  ;D

Haha - this is the dork thread remember  :lol   I'll make sure to throw in some Kinginese here and there to keep things exciting.

I am very much out of the loop at the moment with news etc.......but looking at some of the recent Blabbermouth stories re Megadeth you would have to wonder about the band dynamics :lol

Ellefson:  I am Dave's right hand man
Dave: No , Kiko is.
Ellefson :  I was a founding member
Dave: No he wasn't

etc...

Agreed. At times it's obvious, but more often than not, there's no change, especially between Gabriel/Ahrys/Narrator/whatever.
Doesn't bother me at all, but they talked it up to be bigger than it was.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh-that's better.   Listening to some music in here for the first time in almost a week.   Final dork update - like with many of the Windows 10/iTunes bugs I managed to find at least a partial solution in some obscure little corner of the internet (not from Microsoft or Apple themselves of course).    We're talking huge numbers - so I can't be sure - but I believe I have managed to recover at least the majority of my ratings/files and playlists. And also the missing 20,000 songs that had disappeared from the library (not from my hard drive).   The only area that seems lost for good is all the work I put into the artwork for the many albums that don't register with Gracenote.  Ah well...........could've been much worse.

A bit more work to do tonight and then back to something like normality tomorrow I hope.  Glad to have my music back  :heart

I've almost finished my first listen of the Last in Line album. I was hoping the rest of the album would be more distinctive than the singles, but if anything the rest of the album was even more bland. I couldn't recall a single melody or chorus from the entire album if I tried, it just blurred together. It's the kind of album where it finishes and you think "was that really a whole album? I could swear I only heard 2 or 3 songs".

The performances were good, the production was good, the vocalist was good, but the songwriting is just nothing, almost an afterthought to the album. Nothing stood out as actually bad, but that's because nothing stood out at all.

I've thought albums were average on first listen, but then grown to like them on subsequent listens, but I'm just not feeling the potential for that here. There was little variety, and the melodies were all the same.

Yeah, I've been listening to that one a bit over the past week or so. It's not mindblowing, but it's overall quite enjoyable, and I'll probably get more listens out of it. I don't see it being an album I'll still be listening to into the future though.

I also got Revolution Saints the other day too. Are we confused again yet? :lol

I'll give that one a spin, but not expecting too much from that.

I actually got the Revolution Saints in the car today.  It's the one with Castonovo, Blades and Aldrich.  Really good, some great rockers on there but maybe one too many ballads.

I don't expect you'll get much from Resurrection Kings.

I've only given Revolution Saints one quick spin yet, pretty positive so far. I think I skipped the ballads, because Frontiers albums have given me more than my fill of ballads, it's the rockers that make or break these albums for me.

Fair enough, and the rockers are really good.

Back on My Trail
Locked Out of Paradise
Strangers to This Life
Better World

Amazing songs right here.  Great vibe in all of them too. The Eclipse cover is cool enough, but not needed, but still it's a rocker that fills out the back end of the album.

I never expect a second album from any of these put together Frontiers projects anyway. :lol

No me either, but with Castronovo, it's definitely out of the question now for these guys.  :lol

I think you'd be surprised at how many have actually released more than one album.  Sure most over the last couple of years are obviously a one off novelty project but some of them seem to have a little bit of lasting power.

I know that many have released more than one, I just assume they're a one-off unless I hear more about it. A lot of these albums are side projects or one of many projects, basically the musical equivalent of throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. Not that I have a problem with that, but we end up with a lot of stuff to wade through to find the winners.

For me the Resurrection Kings is definitely stronger.  Plenty of reviews around lauding Viv's return to his metal days but I dunno what they're smoking - for the most part it's a plodding bluesy rock album.  Even on the songs that threaten to rock out , they manage to plod it out in the mid section (Already Dead).  The Sickness isn't bad I suppose but it's all rather pedestrian.

I get the feeling that Viv is trying to rock but it's just not there any more.  After all those years playing second fiddle to Phil Collen he has probably just forgotten.

I rated Resurrection Kings 88% , Last In Line 70%

A song from this Lords of Black project thing.  Pretty shit really.  Probably won't bother, nothing new here.

I liked the Resurrection Kings. Revolution Saints didn't grab me at all. It was nice enough but very bland.

Have now listened to the Nordic Union and enjoyed it far more than Brent did. That could be because I haven't overdosed on the Martensson stuff so the repetition wasn't as obvious.

I thought the Last in Line was ok. Nothing special and Brent is right, it doesn't rock much.
