So all nights are sold out already?  I know I stated I would be interested in going if the bands were good enough... this list is good and still more big names...

First two nights haven't gone on sale yet and won't until November 7th. Second two nights did sell out.

At this point the first two nights could end up being stronger than the main festival.

Wow, these dirst two days are looking really strong.

Circus Maximus and Spocks Beard, neither of them headlining! I'm really curious to see the next two announcements

Holy fuck... no shit!!!  Love this.... LOVE THIS!!!

Wednesday (September 7, 2016):

Lord (Australia)
Stream of Passion (Netherlands)
Spock's Beard (USA)
Slot #4 - TBA (headliner)

Thursday (Promoter's Pick Night) (September 8, 2016):

Gloryhammer (Switzerland & Scotland)
Circus Maximus (Norway)
Slot # 3 - TBA (headliner)

Oh the possibilities!  Possibly another Ted Leonard band, though his others aren't as 'big' as SB.  It's gotta be a Tier 1 prog name ... Threshold?  Avantasia?  DT themselves?  Redemption?  Kamelot?

Trying to think who hasn't been at PPUSA recently.
It won't be DT.

It's what I do.

EDIT: Maybe not a headliner, but Kansas is working on their first album of new material in 15 years.  I assume it will be released some time next year.  I think it would be neat for them to get to play, being the "old guard" of prog still playing.

For the Thursday headliner I'm predicting either Vanden Plas or one of Tobias Sammet's projects. As for Wednesday, given that there's a bit more prog than power right now, I'm expecting a big name Power Metal band. No idea who, that's just my feeling.

I guess there is no 4 night pass then?  I'd like to see DTP and Circus Maximus as my two favorites from the list so far.  If they were to announce Avantasia this would be a no brainer.

Pyramaze announced as a bonus band.

Fuck. Yeah.

On behalf of Nathan, Milton, & myself, we are pleased to announce a "bonus" band for Day 2.   We will now have four bands on each night.

The Day 1 headliner will be announced on November 16th.    The Day 2 headliner ("Glenn's Pick") will be announced on November 30th.  Tickets will go on sale in December with further information to be released next week.

We want to thank our Art Director, Wayne Joyner, for his continued excellence with the video production.

Pyramaze is one of those bands I've never listened to, but whose name I keep seeing. Where's a good starting spot? Looks like they've gone through several lineup changes

The new one is pretty good, but my favorite is Legend of the Bonecarver, and I think Nick has said that to me once as well.

Honestly Nelson, all four are excellent.  Urban breed was doing some of their live work over the last few years.  Immortal is probably my least favorite, but likely because I'm not exactly a big fan of Barlow as a vocalist.

Doc is right... Disciples of the Sun is fantastic.  My personal favorite is Melancholy Beast, then Legend of the Bone Carver.

I gave Disciples... a listen. Liked it well enough and I think it'll likely grow on me. I'll either give Legend of the Bone Carver or Melancholy Beast a try tomorrow.

I guess this is mostly for me an Nelson:

The Day 1 headliner will be announced on November 16th. The Day 2 headliner ("Glenn's Pick") will be announced on November 30th. Two-day tickets will go on sale for $120 on December 5th via Ticketmaster. There are no plans for single day tickets as of yet.
Hope to see everyone do their part on Dec. 5th.
Thanks for your support on behalf of myself, Glenn and Nathan.

Still exciting to see who's bigger than Spock's Beard and Circus Maximus to headline Day 1 and Day 2 respectively.

I wish they would just go ahead and announce the last two bands already. All this waiting is starting to annoy me, considering that they nearly announced the full lineups on September 12th and would have done so if not for a last minute change. So this is either a big tease, or it's been a really long process to confirm one of the headliners.

I'm curious to see who they are as well, so I can decide for sure whether or not I'm going. Spocks Bears, Gloryhammer and Circus Maximus are definitely bands I'd be thrilled to see, but things start getting a bit expensive for me by adding both days and the cost of a hotel and everything else. I really don't have that much to spend. It's also much more difficult for me to miss four or five days of work and class than only 2. Maybe I'll be able to buy a ticket for Thursday only and call it a compromise.

Yeah I just meant possibly buying it off someone later who might be going for Wednesday but not as excited for Thursday. Or, if the Wed/Thurs package tickets don't sell out really quickly (doesn't seem that likely at this point), they might eventually sell individual tickets.

Wednesday headliner is, as I expected, a big name power metal band.

Wasn't expecting it to be Dragonforce, though. And, if I'm being honest, I'm disappointed with that choice. I suspect Thursday's headliner will be more exciting for me.

:iagree:

Never really checked much of them out, but what I have heard didn't do much for me.  Seeing as how they're opening for Kamelot, I'm left feeling a little short changed.  These guys get the nod over SB?  Guess they're bigger in NA overall?  Regarding the Wednesday lineup, they're #4 in terms of my level of interest.

Blind Guardian announced as Glenn's pick.  Guess they got everything sorted out before November 30th.

Will be getting online Dec 5th to get my Day 1/2 tix.  Dragonforce and BG are ok I guess, but the lineup is a little too heavy on the 'Power', and light on the 'Prog'.

Wednesday
Lord (Australia)
Stream of Passion (Netherlands)
Spock's Beard (USA)
Dragonforce (UK)

Thursday
Pyramaze (Denmark/ Norway)
Gloryhammer (Switzerland & Scotland)
Circus Maximus (Norway)
Blind Guardian (Germany)

Friday
Ascendia (Canada)
Vanishing Point (Australia)
Freedom Call (Germany)
Gentle Storm (Netherlands)
Scar Symmetry (Sweden)
Fates Warning (USA)

Saturday
Savage Messiah (UK)
Serious Black (Multinational)
Green Carnation (Norway)
Refuge (Germany)
Haken (UK)
Devin Townsend Band w/ Anneke Van Giersbergen (Canada)

Honestly, it's the entry level bands that have me most interested - Pyramaze, Serious Black, Lord, Vanishing Point.  Of course Spock's Beard and Circus Maximus are high priority as well.

Overall, pretty solid lineup.  Wonder who'll be the first to have Visa problems?  :zeltar:

So, as things stand now, here are my thoughts/plans.

I'm coming off a cruise and need to be tighter with money for a while, and RoSfest 2016 has a weaker lineup this year and so I'll likely skip that.

I can hopefully make it till July or so and reevaluate things/look for any lineup changes, and hopefully by that time Haken will have announced full tour dates. Optimally, if I'm able to do this, I'd buy 2nd hand tickets, drive down for the festival, and then follow Haken back up the East coast and make a full vacation out of it.

Lots of potential hitches in the plan, especially Haken's routing and the finances to pull it off. We'll see.

Edit: Also have to consider that by July hopefully Cruise to the Edge (next sailing March 2017) will have announced their roster, and if it is really strong it could certainly take priority.

Honestly, the announcement of Blind Guardian has put me over the edge, I really want to attend this.  I have the means to do so, my only concern now is that it isn't for a long time.  What's the best way to get tickets now and is it worth it to wait to buy tickets?  I have no idea if anyone I know would even be interested in going, let alone being able to confirm that now or in the near future.  I'd want to do all 4 nights.

Nights 3/4 are "officially" sold out.  I've heard there are always people that have to back out come the summer, so 2nd hand tickets haven't been an issue.  Who knows if that will continue to be the case.

Nights 1/2 don't go on sale until Dec 5th.  As of now, I only know that senecadawg2 and I have tix for nights 3/4.  I'm definitely going to get the opening 2 nights as well, then work on mrs.jingle over the next 8 months.

Wow I was out and about yesterday- I had no idea that they'd announced the headliner.

Blind Guardian? I've only listened to one of their albums before (Nightfall on Middle Earth) but it was definitely my love for The Silmarillion that drew me to that album. Definitely not my love for BG.

Not crazy about the choice... Agree with Chad, the power to prog ratio is a bit skewed for my tastes on those first two days. Not that i dislike power, I'm just not as wild about those headliners.

Not sure if I'll be buying tickets for the first two days now. Thing is, it's difficult for me to get down there mid-week and only really worth it if I love the lineup. Wednesday I'm definitely interested in SB, and Thursday very interested in Gloryhammer and Circus Maximus. Reeealy interested in the latter...

I just don't know.

Lord, SoP and SB make Wednesday appealing enough for me.  I really don't know anything about DF, but what I've heard I'm pretty 'meh' about it.  I'll be seeing them tonight with Kamelot, so I guess that'll give me a better feel.

Pyramaze and Circus Maximus make Thursday worth completely worth it.  BG is ok; like DF, I don't know much about GH either.

Since I'm already in for the weekend, I'll be in for the whole thing.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".
