Mike Portnoy to join Mr.Big on tour
« on: September 14, 2014, 07:47:42 AM »
Something of a sad news. MR. BIG drummer Pat Torpey has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and will be unable to perform all of his normal drumming duties on the band's upcoming world tour in support of the group's new album, "...The Stories We Could Tell".

According to the below link, Mike Portnoy will replace Pat's drummer position. That means 2/3 of Winery Dogs will be performing on stage on this tour.

Did I call that one or what.

(EDIT: The MP drumming part that is. Torpey having Parkinson is actually a few weeks old at this point)

Huh, the official site says the drummer will be Matt Starr??

You know what, I was actually kinda wondering how legit that first site's announcement was. The first part was taken from somewhere else, and the MP announcement seemed kinda tacked on.

Los Angeles, CA -- The rock band MR. BIG announced today that Drummer Pat Torpey's fill-in for the band's upcoming World Tour will be Matt Starr. Matt is currently Ace Frehley's drummer and will sit in for Torpey (who was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease) throughout MR BIG's tour in support of its latest album, "...The Stories We Could Tell."
Unless I see anything official i'll go with this.

Saw that on Melodicrock.com a few days ago.
I did expect MP to end up on this tour given his past with PG and BS but this looks suspect.

Billy Sheehan even confirmed on twitter a while back that it was Matt Starr joining them.  unless it is being kept secret, surely he would have mentioned if mp were joining them..

MP would have been a very temporary fix anyway. I'm presuming Matt Starr will be *the* Mr. Big drummer for the foreseeable future.

Think I read somewhere that he sings some leads for Ace's band, covering Paul Stanley's vocals, so the harmonies will be sorted.

I am trying to verify which story is correct as I speak. And it looks more and more like Matt Starr is the guy instead of MP. Will keep you guys updated when I hear more.

Not exactly hard to verify, is it? :lol The official Mr. Big site has it on their front page.

Unless of course this is another MP "I already made a press release" moment.

The word I have is, Mike was originally going to be the replacement.  But he then demanded that Mr. Big take a 5 year hiatus, and the rest of the band weren't willing to do that, so they parted ways, held auditions with seven drummers, and eventually decided on Matt Starr.  Drummer audition videos to be released on YouTube soon.

Hey, it's not really a laughing matter.  After Aquilles Priester was once again passed over, I hear he fell into a very deep depression.

Fake

Aquilles Priester is touring with Tony MacApline
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

This is well on it's way to becoming thread of the year contender.

What I read was that Mike showed up at the first rehearsal wearing a "Get Over It" Mr. Big tee shirt.  Yada yada ... tweets from Paul ... yada yada ... "Couldn't find a Mr. Big Tee shirt from 1988-1997?".... Blabbermouth article to follow.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
