I'm about to crack open the first book of Branden Sanderson's Stormlight Archives series, called The Way of Kings. I've been holding onto it for a couple years waiting for the third to be released but I'm bored.

The third was just released a week or so ago.

Haha really? What strange timing. I'm very bad at keeping up with books. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut.  I'm not really sure what to think of this book.  I enjoy the ridiculous vignettes of the characters, and the 3-page chapters make it easy to read.  I don't know much about Vonnegut, but I have read that this book is supposed to convey the idea that nothing ultimately matters, and that he dislikes the traditional protagonist-as-hero/antihero story.

I remember liking Slaughterhouse Five when I read it in high school but I don't remember the story. I've added it back to my want-to-read list. I think that is the only Vonnegut I've read.
starting to get a bit bored with the book.  It's just more rambling and nonsense.  There are bits of insight into human idiosyncrasies, and I'm sure there is much more I'm missing, but I'm losing interest.

I honestly don't know. Mild OCD I guess, I like the number 3.

I'm about 500 pages into Oathbringer. Standard Stormlight Archive fare so far, a lot like Words of Radiance, with exception that I love the flashbacks this time (loved them in The Way of Kings, wasn't impressed with them in Words of Radiance). Also, while I had the idea where the story was going in the first two books, this time I have no clue.

I recently read Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer, and it was absolutely captivating. Short, gripping, weird and wonderful "lovecraftian" novel. I'm really looking forward to reading the next two in the series. They're also making a movie of it, directed by the the dude who did Ex-Machina, which looks great based on the one trailer they've done.

I finished The Dark Tower series, finally, last week. I was....disappointed with the ending. I don't know, the series had it's ups and downs but the ending just didn't do it justice as far as I'm concerned.

I have the urge to reread The Wheel of Time series as it's been like 5 years since I touched it. In the meantime though I'm reading Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.

I have the overwhelming need to try to read one more big book before the close of the reading year. Enter Gotham: A History of NYC to 1898 by Mike Wallace and Edwin G. Burrows (it's a little over 1200 pages)

I'm really enjoying Stormlight Archives so far. This is much more interesting and better written than Mistborn.

I would say The Way of Kings is hard to get into because of so much inworld exposition in a few first chapters, but after you get into the story about 100-150 pages in, it really hits that sweet spot between pace of the story and exposition and becomes difficult to put down. I remember I spent hours in the evenings going through this book.

From Here to Eternity by Caitlin Doughty, who is a funeral director in CA trying to change the industry. The book is about different death-related customs around the world. Not as funny as her first book but still super interesting. She came here and did a reading in October which was a pleasure. Total badass.

Edgedancer - Brandon Sanderson

I'm getting prepared to plunge into the final Stormlight book.

I didn't like Edgedancer, but then I don't like Lift as a character, so that was to be expected. Still, it's somewhat of an essential read if you want to catch every little detail in Oathbringer.

I'm somewhere in the middle of Part IV right now and I'll shut up now. I hope to finish before Christmas though.

I swear, I've read this before!  ???  At the very least, this breaking into the brass palace in order to get choice food bit. Was the first chapter of this "novella" printed at the end of the last book or something?

Well, Words of Radiance had a Lift interlude somewhere in the book (Words of Radiance spoilers: where Lift and the group of thieves tried to infiltrate Azir's Palace, failed, Nalan/Darkness arrived and killed Gawx only for Lift to resurrect him and then Azir scribes appointed him as a Prime—mostly because no one wanted to become Prime now that Szeth (Assassin in White) killed a few previous Primes in a row), but as far as I know, there is no more Lift-related material in WoR, my book doesn't have any bonus chapters, but maybe your edition does.

Edgedancer should start with, well, slight spoilers ahead, nothing serious though if you've already read WoR: Lift has left Azir and heading to another city called Yeddaw in Tashikk empire (I think?), talking to Wyndle on the countryside; I think she reaches the gates in chapter three or four. Getting choice food is kinda her agenda overall, so she's doing that during the whole Edgedancer novella (this time it's pancakes).

Yeah, my copy of Edgedancer that I just bought for Kindle is starting with your first tiny text from Words of Radiance. I knew it was all too familiar!

Got Origin by Tempus Vox Dan Brown and Bruce Dickinson's book for Xmas so those are next up. Haven't liked anything by Dan Brown since Angels and Demons but my sister said I would like this one. I want to get Jim Ross's new book too.
