You don't look like what I imagined in my head from your posts. I don't know what I imagined from your posts........ maybe some kind of reptile human hybrid?

If you're talking about TioJorge, me too.  I wasn't thinking Sam Kinison or Lewis Black, but more like...   a skinnier, Latino Bobcat Goldthwaite.   Or a Chris Cornell without the rock star.  Charlie Sheen without the bowling shirts.

Some good pictures in here guys.  Too good, in fact.  So good that I'm going to have to bring the level down a bit.

A recorder quartet.

Amy (descant), Michael (alto), Brian (soprano 1), and Orbert (soprano 2).

That's Steve (Amy's husband) in the front row, with their daughter Addie on his lap.  Steve and Amy are amazing; they have six kids and two PhD's between them, and their whole family is like the Von Trapp family.  They all play music (except Addie, so far).  I've had the pleasure of arranging tunes for them a couple of times for some rather unique ensembles.

Yeah the audience that evening was not huge, maybe 20 people total got to hear us.  But a gig's a gig, and those 20 people got something pretty cool.

It was.  Since it was in church, where no one sits in the front row, the picture looks kinda funny.  Addie of course wanted a front-row seat to see Mommy play, but other than Addie and Steve, and our director on the other side waving her arms, everyone else was at least three rows back.  But it was fun.

Or.....

Something about being surrounded by light, and happiness but you're wearing dark sunglasses, which is a metaphor for your dark perspective in happy situations.

Took a drive up to Santa Maria today. Stopped in Santa Barbara on the way up.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

For folks who don't follow the Musician's Chat Thread, we put a band together to play at the end-of-year thing for a local homeless shelter.  This is the only picture from the gig where I'm visible.

Orbert (keyboards, sax, vocals), Bill (guitar, vocals), Karen (vocals), Mike (bass, vocals), Scott (percussion, harmonica), Ryan (drums)

We introduced ourselves as Revelation, which was only picked about five minutes before we started, and it doesn't matter anyway because it was a one-off gig.  We're all too busy to start another band on a regular basis.  But there's nothing like a good one-night stand.

The drum riser and walls are on one side and the keyboard riser was at the other end.  I decided to just go with it rather than set up in the middle somewhere before I realized that everyone else was on the front apron.  Whatever.  Also, the angle is kinda weird; I wasn't actually that far away from the rest of the band.  I was pretty much right behind Bill and interacted a lot with Bill and Karen.

This is the place where I used to play CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) in the praise band for a few years, about five years ago.  Bill, Karen, Mike, and Ryan are all still regulars there.  They host events there a lot, and are all set up for it, and that night they gave us a sound guy and a lighting/tech guy, so it was pretty well done.  A good time.  ♫♫

Like when I saw Sabbath a couple months ago and they introduced Adam Wakeman, and he poked his head out through a black curtain on the side of the stage (I was fourth row, and he was right in front of me the entire show and I had no idea).  Claude Schnell (Dio) and Derek Sherinian (Kiss) had similar prominent setups.

Well, at least I was visible.  I don't mind being in the back, because I don't see my job as one which requires any attention.  The front person or people are there for a reason, guitars are cool, etc.  No one gives a shit about the keyboard player; I'm just there to make things sound good.  And believe me, this gig would've been total shit if I wasn't there.  I won't play behind a fucking curtain, though.  That's just completely stupid.  Well, I won't do it for free anyway.

We should be the ones making a statement about having keyboard on the first row!
Back rows are for drummers and bass players  ;)

If I had a strap-on like yours, I would definitely flaunt it, and it would be Step One towards getting me out of the back row.  But there is also the issue of personality.  I've played the piano and accompanied countless singers, soloists, and ensembles over the years, and have come to prefer staying out of the limelight.  This seems to have extended itself to my role in rock and roll bands.  For one thing, if I fuck up, no one knows because no one's listening to me.  But I'm back there, making everything sound good (or at least better).

It would be different if the type of music I play featured screaming Moog solos or other spotlight moments.  I get a handful of solos per night, but nothing too crazy, and that's fine with me.
