Just edited my original post in the thread with my final list My first 9 were fairly straightforward, aside from sorting the order of most of them, but the final spot was very tricky to decide on. In the end, I couldn't pick out a favourite among the contenders, so I just decided to go with the most obscure track that nobody else has probably ever heard of 

Some tracks that just missed out on my top 10:

As is Pink Floyd's Shine On, but it was more or less agreed that it counts as one song (and then there is the 2004 Remaster with an alternate version that is not divided).

Ok, just spent the last three hours tallying votes, a few things came to mind....


1- This was a really stupid fucking idea 
2- The Flower Kings and Neal Morse have way to many epics.
3- I need reading glasses.


I'll post results tomorrow or the next day, feel free to take guesses as to the winner. just from the tallying I got it narrowed down to about three songs, but I gotta add the shit up.

Ok folks, the final tally is in. I ignored any works that were out of the rock/metal genres, most were only voted for once anyways. A first place vote got ten points, a second got two, third-three, and onwards down to 1 point for a tenth place.

124 songs were nominated. Tons of bands with one epic,  a good handful with two. Only Yes, Dream Theater, The Flower Kings, IQ, Transatlantic, and Neal Morse had more than two nominated.

In this final tally, it will go from lowest to highest, and epics with less than twenty points were left off cause I didn’t want to be typing my whole day off. So, here we go……..

Glad to see Pink Floyd song in Top 5, even if it's not Echoes. Also positively surprised at SW's Raider II making the 7th place.

Fix'd. Yeah, I was surprised to see SW up there too, as well as seeing Seventh Wonder make it. I think the bands with lots of epics diluted themselves in the voting, freeing up space for those with only one or two to take top spots. Flower Kings had like five songs nominated, but each only once or twice.

I have no problem with any of the top five places, as I know them all and they're all great.  And among those I know even as far down as the top 20, still no problem, I just don't know some of them.  So great music tends to transcend minor, and sometimes even major, differences in taste across different genres.  That's cool.

I know, and I triple checked the numbers. Mainly, it was other than the first place votes, only 6 peeps voted for 8VM. CoS got like 25 votes, many over a 6. In the DT epic popularity contest, CoS won hands down.

That is interesting, yet somehow not surprising.  People who prefer Octavarium seem to prefer it pretty definitively over A Change of Seasons.  But A Change of Seasons has more "general" support.

As I recall, a number of people didn't actually RANK their list, so ACOS may have ended up listed by members, where if they had taken the time to rank, it would've been #1 more often?
