Classic Rock Vocal Showdown: Round 2(#3) - Tyler vs Stanley
« on: November 28, 2014, 10:50:56 AM »
Well, couple of hardcore rockers that still bring it today.  I would argue that Tyler is the more talented singer, and if I had to look back on their discogs, I think I'd rather hear Steven on the mic.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Now that's tough .........hard for me to split so I'll go with the guy who has had the biggest influence on my life.   Stanley.

I voted Stanley, but I kind of regret it and wish I'd voted for Tyler.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Both great singers and frontmen. One is a great songwriter too.
Paul Stanley even if only for those vocal gymnastics in the 80s. And singing Phantom in Toronto.

I don't rate Tyler's voice in the 70s stuff but come the 80s he became a great singer. So much emotion in those 80s ballads.

Wow! Great match up. Nice J Boy.

Tyler was awsome in the 70's, Lowdz, but I think we had this conversation in another thread rcently.

But I easily chose Paul Stanley.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I"m not really that big a fan of either band, but I like more songs by Aerosmith than I do by Kiss, so Steven Tyler gets my vote for that reason alone.

He's also fun to listen to when he's being interviewed.

Not a big fan of either, but I don't mind Paul, and I like his solo Kiss album.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

From the late 70s through the 80s, I'd daresay there was no more underrated vocalist in rock music than Paul Stanley. His solo album from '78 has some amazing vocals. That's enough for him to get the nod.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that when I was much younger, whenever I sang in my natural voice I sounded just like Paul Stanley.  :lol

I agree. His vocals were godly through the '80s, and he's one of the most underrated frontmen in general. Tyler's a great singer too, but his voice has always been grating on me, so I've never liked him or Aerosmith.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

I picked Paul Stanley (by a long shot) but I have to say his voice has really declined in recent years. Have you seen recent Kiss footage? It's a shame really, the man had serious pipes.

Yeah, from around the mid 2000s his voice has been declining noticeably. He's had vocal surgery in recent times, so he's definitely had ongoing vocal issues, but even with KISS now tuning down a whole step since the Monster tour, it hasn't helped much. You can hear a crunchiness to his voice now that he never had before.

But even up until Kiss Alive 4 and the following tour or so, his voice was sounding really strong, good range and tone. The combo of vocal issues plus constant touring every year has taken its toll.

Agreed. Even when I saw them in like 2004 he was sounding just as good as ever. I even thought his vocals were at least pretty good on Sonic Boom. I was shocked to see Monster tour footage and hear how bad his voice sounded.

I saw Tyler twice in 2013 and he sounded better than he ever has............quite amazing in his 60's.
