Will DT enter the studio in January?

I don't see another leg coming up. It's a short SA and Asia leg but if they continue the album/tour cycle release, it would be about that time to rest and reconvene in January for a fall 2015 release (DT 12 was released Sept 2013). I have no insider info but the 2nd US leg from the ADTOE leg were minor markets and I don't think they did well. I know for fact that at least two Texas show (El Paso and Dallas) were not even close to selling out. I don't recall if the other cities from the 2nd leg were sold out or pretty close to selling out.

Well, they seem to really enjoy doing the summer festivals in Europe, so if they're gonna record a new album, it would have to be either early 2015, so, January/February, or after summer, in September.
I wouldn't mind waiting until September, for them to start recording. I mean, it'd give them a change of atmosphere, and if they take early 2015 off, they'd have a chance for a breather, in addition to JP perhaps completing his solo project, finally.

I don't think they'll return to the studio that quickly. I still think they might do some extra tour legs, and hopefully get a bit of a break for time with their families and working on their other projects.

That would be fine by me. The last two albums have all been recorded January-May released in late September--let's get off that track for a bit.

I believe they will wrap up the DTtour before this year is over and then enter the studio in February/March, for a October/November 2015 release. Then another pause and again touring starting ~February into the Summer and Fall.

Personally, I wouldn't mind another US leg or otherwise time off, followed by summer festivals, and waiting to record until the fall.

But whatever they decide is fine.

For those of us in the southern US, I would love to see them, but understand if they decide to skip us this time around.  When they were in the US for the first leg, I would have had to travel 8 hours to see them.  Looking forward to the next cd.

As much as I'll really look forward to DT13 when it does happen, I kinda hope they break the January-September odd-year cycle of making a new album. After them doing it for two albums in a row, it would be a bit predictable.

I hope they take a couple of months off after the tour. They're not getting any younger, and they could use the time off to perhaps develop new ideas.

Whatever benefits their personal and professional lives the most is what I hope will happen. If breaking the usual cycle to get some extra off time is the better long term idea, I'm all for it. As TGP said, it would also give them more time to work on solo albums.

I would love to see JP's solo album come out finally. It's certainly living up to be a worthy Suspended Animation successor, in terms of release

I hope they just re-enter the studio in January/February instead of another US leg (unless they completely change up the set). The shows I saw on the initial leg were good, but I would have ZERO interest in seeing it again.

I doubt he'll be starting a new solo album so soon, but yes, Live shows would be amazing, if the foreign guys can actually get proper Visas this time around.

That would not surprise me.  Thus far, it does not seem like they want to come up with a new set list to rehearse and re-do lighting and video for, and it probably does not make sense for them to bring the same tour back through the U.S.  Saturation really is an important factor, and if shows sell less and promoters get the impression that the market is a bit oversaturated for DT, that can hurt them in the long run for future tour plans.  If they aren't going to change things up, and it does not look like they are, it probably makes sense for them to NOT do another U.S. leg. 

On the Black Clouds tour, they were also concerned about not oversaturating.  (or at least, Mike was)  After the Prog Nation tour, they elected to NOT do a separate headlining tour, and instead did a stint of dates with Maiden.  A lot of fans were disappointed and ended up missing the band on that album cycle altogether because PN either didn't come near them, or they elected to not see the band on PN and wait for a headlining tour that never ended up materializing.  It was disappointing.  This is a bit different because they actually did a full-on headlining tour, and an evening-with format at that.  So I am fine with them not coming back if that is what they decide.

I don't really know anything about DT's normal schedule, but it seems to me like they'd take some time off before jumping right back into the studio.

Why is that? Is the local music (read: country) crowding metal acts out?

Local music in this area (for the normative DT demographic) is rock.  I dunno.  But they have only been to North Carolina once, and that was for Progressive Nation, not even a full DT show.

Sounds promising. I'll be upset if they skip New Zealand but I practically have zero expectations for them to come back again at this point.  I hope they eventually decide to come back though! Just can't expect them to. I'm guessing it might not be very profitable or sustainable going all the way down here but the one show they did in 09 was amazing. And I think there'd still be plenty of fans here to justify it, they're surely more popular and known than they were 5 years ago too.

But that news already gets me excited for DT13. Everything happens so quickly we'll have a new album before we even know it.

I'm fairly sure there were two European legs on the ATDOE tour, they played UK dates in summer 2011 and again in February 2012.

The UK dates for Summer 2011 predated the release of ADTOE and only featured one cut from the album during those dates, but yeah technically DT did tour that summer in UK.
