Eh, not terrible but not very memorable either.

I loved their first album when it came out (haven't listened to it in years), Iowa didn't really stick with me, and I haven't listened to anything since.

Can't imagine the son of Max Weinberg being any good on drums.

I had a Bruse Springsteen live DVD once and the drumming was fucking rubbish.

OH DEAR GOD SOMEONE HAD AN OPINION
Well, it was a bit more than that. The opinion would have been "Max Weinberg is rubbish". That's fair enough. Extending that to "therefore, his son can't possibly be good at anything" doesn't even make sense.

Anyway, listened to the song now, and it's not very interesting. I hope there's a bit more going on across the rest of the album.

Slipknot are like Korn or Limp Bizkit, they really feel like a remnant of the past. Nu-Metal (or that side of Alternative Metal) hasn't aged well for me at all. You can say what you want about Linkin Park's last 3-4 albums, but at least they left a dying genre to try something different. New Slipknot is like being transported back to school and all those problems and the angst you had as a 13 year old.  :\

Not to hate on anyone who likes them, that's just my opinion of course. I'm probably pretty biased since Nu-Metal was my thing as a teenager and it feels really dated now.

Yeah Slipknot's previous two albums felt like moving away from Nu Metal with proper singing and guitar solos and acoustics etc.

This new single sounds like the first album again.

I guess, but properly produced at least.

The new song does remind me of the first album, both musically and stylistically. But there's a slightly different, more mature attitude to it. I don't think the new album will be a replica of their debut.

I get a feeling like Ross Robinson might have produced this new album. Guess we'll find out in due time.

There's isn't an avalanche of profanity on this new song. That's what made IOWA so childish and Volume 3 so good IMO.

In regards to Korn and Limp Bizkit I agree. I have the same for those bands (save for a few solid Korn songs). But in regards of Slipknot, I do think there is a lot of quality present in a lot of their songs. When I hear Vol. 3. and AHIG, there are certain aspects that I appreciate more than before.

For some reason, punk rock and nu-metal always get a lot of critique of former teenage fans opposed to other genres (that is what I see/hear around me anyways). Thankfully, I do not have that problem myself. The better material in both genres does not sound immature or specifically aimed at teenagers to me.

So this song is a non album track and the first proper single is out in a couple of weeks.

Maybe all the new info will follow.

Where did you read it's a non album track? Their youtube channel says "Slipknot's music video for 'The Negative One' from the upcoming fifth album."

Corey did an interview recently.

It's on Blabbamouth somewhere too.

Taylor told the BBC that "The Negative One" is not the official first single from the album, explaining, "That was just a gift for the fans, like we wanted them to hear a piece of the album. The single [titled 'The Devil In I'] comes out in a few weeks and it's completely different. It's more melodic, but it's dark, it's powerful man, its something different, people are going to lose their minds when they hear that."

Ok it's not the first *official* single. But I must have read the story elsewhere and someone else had tagged on non-album track ?

All Hope Is Gone is pretty good,  I'd consider it behind Vol.3.

Their slow songs are great,  from Tattered and Torn, Gently. I'd like to hear if theirs one of those types of songs.

Am I the only one who enjoys all of their albums?

Also I think the new track is a grower. Kinda reminding me of when I first heard Hail To The King.

Not a super Slipknot fan, only owning their first one.

I just checked Amazon and "Volume 3" and "All hope is gone" is free to add to my MP3 cloud player since I am a prime user. Cool, I'll check them out.

Stone Sour too.  :metal

I've been listening to them since their debut and have been following since then. The debut was a typical teenage angst record in my adolescent years, but I have to say every subsequent record they've been maturing in a good way.

The debut nowadays seems a bit amateur compared to the others. They perfected the sickening vibe they came from on their IOWA record, I really dig that one. Vol. 3 is really good musically but the production is typical Rubinesque overcompression. That's why I really like All Hope Is Gone.

Yeah the production on Vol. 3 is the worst thing about it. If Rick Rubin keeps on producing, they should hire a good sound engineer when they hire him so it won't sound bad and be part of the loudness war.

Rick Rubin is VERY hit or miss. It seems for every good album he is behind, there's at least five that aren't good. I'm not overly fond of his sound or style to be honest.

Vol. 3 also has a few tracls where the shreddy guitar solos sound really bad. At the time though, I was very surprised they even got to incorporate solos in the first place. That said, Vermillion's solo is pretty badass.

So there was a bunch of fan speculation last week that Chris Adler from Lamb of God played drums on the new Slipknot album, and he responded today:

Quote
ABC News Radio caught up with Adler and asked him about the Internet chatter. "Right now I think silence is golden," he said. "Right now I don't think those guys need me, or need me talking about it."

Regarding the fact that many fans have posted online that the playing on the track sounds an awful lot like Adler, he said: "You know, I listened to it and I thought it sounded a little bit like me, too," he admitted. "At the moment, I just don't recall doing it."

"I'm getting texts and emails and phone calls about it," Adler added. "[But] for the moment, I don't know anything about it."

The drumming is definitely cool on the track. I still think the vocals sound very weird, though.

Brand New Single.

Very Interesting.

It sounds more like Stone Sour...
