Monuments (British progressive metal band)
« on: July 21, 2014, 12:58:47 PM »
Saw this band open for Scale the Summit over the weekend and they nearly imploded the venue with their intensity.  Anyone else familiar with them?  Their singer was particularly impressive.  Here's a recent lyric video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6g4KfV4ZXlY&list=PLYUH7OhTT4tNyDWpq47HfNZ4Bo16hoCV0&index=2

Mike Malayan is a crazy good drummer.

He also drums for " The Algorithm " and has filled in with Periphery too I think.

Apparently their old singer is a dick. He got sacked from the band because he never put any effort in - then demanded to be paid royalties for the new album

despite not writing or appearing on it at all.

My bro has made a few videos for them and I helped film one once. Pretty good band.

I'm definitely not a screamo guy, and that would probably stop me from truly liking their music.  But they really killed it at the local show.  The lead singer seems like he can sing aside from the screams and I was just all-around impressed.  I'll keep my eye on these guys.

BUMP

Transatlantic progressive metal outfit MONUMENTS are releasing “Cardinal Red”, another track and video taken from their forth album, “In Stasis”, that is set for a release April 15th, 2022. While the song is out on all digital platforms the matching video, that was directed and produced by Sitcom Soldiers, will be available at 9pm CET / 8pm UK / 3pm ET / 12 (noon) PT under the following link: https://youtu.be/MGG-p0Pmc7Q

Says the band about the song and video: “The story outlined in this video, is without question, a metaphorical concept. The true meaning of ‘Cardinal Red’ can be found cryptically within the lyrics.”

The band about “In Stasis”: “We approached this album without the intention of a specific concept. However - three songs in, what was being written ended up sharing a common theme.
This feeling of being stuck in the middle, a feeling we experience throughout our lives - within friendships and relationships, love to hate, life to death, belief or non-belief, being in power to total defeat, isolation to freedom. Over the past 2 years, we have been faced with many of these trials, and these struggles can be heard throughout the record.
This record is a culmination of our greatest triumphs and our deepest struggles. We hope it resonates with you, and brings you closer to equilibrium.
We'd like to thank guests Neema Askari (Form Subtract, ex Fellsilent, ex-Monuments), Spencer Sotelo (Periphery, King Mothership), and Mick Gordon (DOOM, Prey, Killer Instinct) for enhancing the record with their unique perspectives.”

I would have listened to more but the screaming is super annoying. I don't get how we've arrived at this point where 90% of "extreme" vocals sound almost exactly like one out of three stereotypes. (Screamo (this one)/Death Metal Cookie Monster/Randy Blythe)

It feels like it's been like this for well over a decade. It's not a case of  liking or disliking growls.
The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.
