I feel sorry for animals like that. Eons of evolution have fine-tuned their muscles to operate on the simple, not unreasonable assumption that they have traction on whatever surface they're on. Dirt, grass, even concrete. When that's a given, they function pretty much flawlessly. Then people come along and clip their claws and invent these smooth surfaces, and all bets are off.

He didn't slip...his back paws were gripping the edge of the ledge for extra push...he just completely misjudged the distance, and more than likely, his own weight.

Nah, anyone who owns a cat knows that ain't the case. If you look carefully enough, there is some definite back paw slippage. He may have been gripping the edge, but then they lost it... his back paws clearly went in reverse rather than the body going forward. Cats can jump huge distances - even the chubby ones can get some pretty safe distance. By the looks of things, it's likely made that jump in the past, this time... ZOINKS!

A cat isn't going to misjudge it by that much; he wasn't even close. Moreover, I don't think his back paws had any grip whatsoever. Sure looks like they just flew backward when he tried to launch. While I'll avoid blaming humanity, I think Orbert's right about what happened.
