21.) Commando (1985)

This is another game I spent a lot of my childhood playing while I was at my grandparent's house. I even own it for myself these days as well. It's a top down shooter that's absolutely nuts, bullets are flying everywhere, enemy men are running every which way, and grenades are flying bruh. I think I've beaten it once or twice as a little sprout, but this game is tough for me, even these days. In the end it's a fun game that does a good job of giving a glimpse at the chaos of a battlefield. Nothing overly amazing, but it's a fun way to spend a few hours. And as a kid that's what's up.

Another classic game I've never played. Is it like Contra?

I always forget I hate one-listing-per-day Top XX threads.

Good game for nostaliga, but not one I would get through more than 5 minutes of these days. I don't think I was even sure this game had an ending. I've sure never seen it.

I would place it somewhere between Contra and Ikari Warriors. A shoot-em-up that isn't as fun and diverse as the former, but much more enjoyable than the similarly-styled latter.

Not really on the topic of DC's list, but I'm thankful for the existance of this list already, because it made me revisit three games from one of, if not my favourite, gaming franchise.

Really though... you should have your list ready and if not typed out, then a general gist of what you want to say before you start posting. On that note, we should definitely have a limit to how long this shit should take. SOME PEOPLE WANT TO MASTURBATE TO A FULL LIST OF GAMES THAT OTHERS HAVE GRACIOUSLY SHOWN.

Srsly, I'm not stressing it at all, but I imagine that others who have their lists ready in some form are being left out. I'd rather see a list that's been thought out and a bit more expansive rather then 'this is my nostalgia porn'. No offense to DC...but it's kinda ridonkulous; I doubt the next write up will be any more than what's already been posted.

I'll eventually get in on this but I was hoping to get some inspiration before hand. Eh.

I say no more than a month. I hope you can complete your list before June 22th or I will kick your ass the next user will start it's own, no matter if you've finished or not.

20. Total War Shogun 2 (2011)

Wow I'm pretty mediocre at RTS's and generally they don't keep my interest. I guess you could say this is one of the very few that do, and part of that is because I love Feudal era Japanese history. Samurai were my biggest obsession alongside otters growing up, and being able to command entire GAWT DANGED armies of them is like my personal wet dream. Not to mention the visuals are simply gorgeous and the strategy involved in fueling a successful campaign is pretty darn fun to figure out. I suck at the online, partially because I don't have the DLC and end up going against armies with cannons and rifles while I'm going full feudal style  :lol but that doesn't deter me from playing online every once and awhile. I'm pretty sure Total War is also one of the established franchises in the genre so I'm sure the quality of their games is well known.

Anyways if you're a samurai freak like me, this is as close as it gets right now to living the dream.

Sorry that some of my favorite games happen to coincide with my childhood and that the others don't really take 5 paragraphs to explain.
You can expect more lengthy write ups further up the lists, I don't want to waste your time with my "nostalgia porn"  :\

Anywho, onwards.

19. Tecmo Super Bowl (1991)

Watch out, it's another game I played a bunch in my childhood and even today! Tecmo Super Bowl has kept me entertained through rainy afternoons, super boring classes, and lonely evenings. It pretty much improved upon everything from the previous Tecmo Bowl, not only game wise but the fact that you could play as actual NFL teams with the actual rosters of the time. It also just so happened most of my favorite teams were pretty good at the time, so I could play as the Bills, and destroy any team with the rush offense, or play as the Chiefs and Mcfuck you up. It was also annoyingly awesome that with each win the game got more and more frustratingly difficult, not only by making it nearly impossible to pass, but also impossible to defend, so when you were able to pull of that deep pass, sack the QB, or intercept the ball, you felt like a fucking champ. The game also simply does not get old, I have popped this game on so many times, and I keep coming back because it never loses it's entertainment.

DC, I want your writeups to be however you feel. Hell, all my top 50 albums review was nothing but nostalgic memories. That's fine. Don't make a writeup for others, do it for yourself.

Aww... I didn't mean anything offensive by it, nostalgia plays a big part in reviewing games we grew up on, naturally. I was just saying I'd like to hear more about why you love these games, not just that you like them and then an explanation of the game itself. It was a meager critique, I wasn't bashing you; also...5 paragraphs? Hardly. But yeah, I'd like a little more than a couple sentences.

I suppose it's not my place. Apparently it worked though, because I thought the last two write-ups were a lot better.  :P And yay to Shogun; very fun game.

I've been looking into lots of top 100 all-time video game lists recently, and I'm surprised by how many times does that game appear.

I'll add the qualifier of "and you are from N. America" to my previous claim.  It is a bit unfair to expect people in Europe to know the Bo Jackson or Barry Sanders rule.

I'm with Gen. I've never had a good time playing a sports game, even with friends. There'd always be the one dude who thinks he's a superstar while playing it (similar to the Guitar Hero phenomenon); but the rest of us would always end up overruling him and playing Mario Kart or Smash.  :lol

Indeed. Football games are probably the absolute worst of them all though. Someone thought it was a good idea to transplant the tedium of watching football, amplify it by 1000 and then male you play football?  Fuck that guy.  I've played some hockey and soccer (read: Euro Football) games that are a lot of fun, football videogames are like fun-arsenic.

Many beer pong games later, my friend and I upped the ante. 1 cup each, across the living room, 2 shots, if you made it the other had to run around the apartment in their boxers, I sank it first shot.

18. Bayonetta (2010)

A game that sparked a bit of controversy around the internet due to the lead characters' design, Bayonetta is a game that I find to be a damn good DMC styled game, through the gameplay and humor. The combat is ultra smooth and you'll find yourself getting into a real rhythm the more you play, and it feels good. The visuals are pretty tight as well and the game is an enjoyable ride.

Never played this one, but the moment that I saw the heroine on the cover, I knew that I had seen this game somewhere, and it just came to me again: my dad played this. Weird.
