I have most of the write-ups ready, but I'm actually going to let the songs be able to soak in and not base everything off my initial impressions. Expect results to be up within 24 hours though.

Im interested in your write up of mine.
I expect that those artists not appearing on your last.fm are just omissions not that you've not actually experienced them.

*DISCLAIMER*

Quote
Feeling like I have to address this. They are still fair game. If you are persistent enough maybe I'll come to like something by then. Then again, one could send another Anathema song and if I happen to like it, it will skyrocket into first place of the bands I have to run through the discography of. You obviously can't send a song that has previously been sent though.

*END DISCLAIMER*

So here are the results of Round 1. I think you guys in general did quite well. There were no songs I disliked or anything. No songs got a lower score than 5 either, and a 5 for me is if I feel completely indifferent to the song. Below that is that I dislike something about it. Anyway, here are the writeups:

senecadawg2: Anathema – Dreaming Light (10/10)

I've heard some Anathema before and I liked some of it, but I can't recall why I didn't fully explore their discography. This song makes me want to check out their entire discography. It's an absolutely beautiful track, and even made me shed a few tears. I was touched. I almost couldn't have asked for anything better.

Shadow Ninja 2.0: Now, Now – Thread (7/10)

I really enjoyed this song. Can't put my finger on why, but it's one of those songs. It's the same reason I like songs like Everlong by Foo Fighters. Simple harmonization, a simple beat and a great chorus.

Nekov: Pat Metheny - Yolanda, You Learn (6/10)

I have been meaning to get into Pat Metheny for a while, but have never gotten around to it. I'm not a huge fan of this song though. It carries a great groove, but it is instrumentally wacky and I can't really get past that. The song gathers momentum towards the end and it feels like soloing should continue for another couple of minutes, as it has really picked up steam by then. Not really a fan of the fade out that occurs here either. All in all it's an OK tune though.

Tyrias: Steven Wilson – The Raven that Refused to Sing (6.5/10)

I have heard some of PT's discography, but haven't heard SW's solo stuff. This is a very well executed atmospheric and mellow song. I like it. There's a lot of though and emotion put into this track. Even though this song isn't the best thing since sliced bread there's really no reason for me not to check out PT's extended discography as well as SW's other side project, seeing that I like some of PT's output already.

kingshmegland: Aisles – Sorrow (6.5/10)

This was a pretty decent song by a band previously unknown to me. I liked the vocals and the instrumentation, but I think the song was too long and it got too repetitive despite the abundance of dynamic changes in the song.

Scorpion: Shattered Skies – Saviours (7.5/10)

This was a very fun djenty track. It wasn't your usual syncopation and all that, this was really unique. Incorporating slap/pop techniques on the guitar by the looks of the MV. Didn't think much of intro, but when the vocals came in it all made sense. My only real pet peeve is that the instrumentation is a bit muddy at times (muddier than it has to be) but otherwise this is great.

YtseBitsySpider: David Sandborn – Run For Cover (8.5/10)

Apparently this song is written by Marcus Miller. I know of Marcus Miller have seen him live (by accident) too, haven't heard this song though. But it's what can be expected by Marcus Miller. A groove that could impregnate someone with their tubes tied. David Sanborn I've heard of but not paid much attention to, he's playing brilliantly on this track.

Ben_Jamin: David Maxim Micic – Daydreamers (9/10)

Clocking it at nearly 12 minutes this is the longest submission this round by far, but it's well worth all those minutes. It never gets boring and it feels cohesive, something that can't be said of all long tracks. Each individual part also shines, this is a fantastic track.

wolfking: Frank Gambale – High 5 (5.5/10)

Pretty standard fusion track. I know of Frank Gambale and his style, but haven't listened to much of his stuff. I'm not hugely into fusion as I am other styles of jazz though. It's hard to find fusion that properly excites me. I know FG is a brilliant guitarist, but this song just isn't the best thing ever.

Big Hath: Jaco Pastorius – Come On, Come Over (8.5/10)

Yeahhhhhhh. I know of Jaco, have listened a little but not extensively. I will have to rectify that.

adace: Malabar Front – If These Trees Could Talk (5/10)

This song is just meh. Typical post-rock in that it fails to excite me. I understand how some people can really enjoy this and just drift away, but I don't. It's not that this song is bad, I just feel pretty indifferent to it.

Total Score:
senecadawg2: 10
Ben_Jamin: 9
Big Hath : 8.5
YtseBitsySpider: 8.5
Scorpion: 7.5
Shadow Ninja 2.0: 7
kingshmegland: 6.5
Tyrias: 6.5
Nekov: 6
wolfking: 5.5
adace: 5.5

ROUND 2: Send me something that is intense. You are free to interpret that as you wish. Since I'll be busy this weekend and adace isn't sending his song until Sunday or so anyway, the results might not be up until Tuesday or Wednesday next week. So be patient until then.

That was not the safest choice when it comes to Pat Metheny but I really like that song. The guy has a long and varying list of records so you should still check him out.

I'm thrilled to see you enjoyed Dreaming Light! It's one of my favorite Anathema songs, and hopefully you enjoy their other stuff as well. It's great that you feel compelled to check out their whole discography, but in terms of a starting place I'd definitely recommend that album, were here because were here  :azn:

So.. Results for round 2:

Big Hath: Anathema – The Gathering of the Clouds (5.5/10)
Much less impressive than the previous Anathema song sent to me. From what I can deduce, this seems to be a track transitioning into another? If that is so, it would be nice to hear what came after, because it feels like it's taken a bit out of context on its own. In and of itself, this was kind of meh.

senecadawg2: Clint Mansell – Death is the Road to Awe (9/10)
Apparently this comes from a soundtrack to a film called The Fountain. Well, I'm going to have to see that movie pretty soon. This track convinced me. It's beautiful. The latter half of the song is really intense and sounds absolutely huge.

Nekov: Sigur Ros - Sćglópur (9.5/10)
Ok. I did not expect to be so moved by a post-rock song, but I was. Chapeau. This did not bore me like post-rock can do at times, it did the opposite. I've heard some Sigur Rós before, I might even have heard this song before. But I never was so moved by it before. I guess I'll have to try Sigur Rós again sometime soon. Maybe I'll find some more gems in their discography.

Ben_Jamin: Superior – Until The End (5/10)
Feels like a typical prog metal ballad in my opinion. It's not horrible, but I'm not ecstatic about it. It started out well, but for some reason it didn't deliver at all. Just   :\

Shadow Ninja 2.0: Dir En Grey – 冷血なりせば (Reiketsu Nariseba) (9/10)
Schaisse. How have I not explored this band earlier. This song annihilated my colon. In a good way.

kingshmegland: Pyramid Theorem – Another Day Slips By (6/10)
A well put together heavy prog song. It was OK. Not completely generic, had some redeeming qualities, but ultimately failed to excite me.

Scorpion: The Dillinger Escape Plan – 43% Burnt (7/10)
This song was absolutely insane. Not a huge fan of the vocals. Sometimes harsh vocals work, but this was a miss. The song was well constructed though, with the opening theme coming back in the end to complete the song too. That riff is so dissonant yet awesome. I have mixed feelings about this, generally favorable though.

Tyrias: Árstíđir – Shades (8.5/10)
This was a great piece. The instrumentation was on point, the entire track was just 100% solid from start to finish. The strings work so well in this song.

adace: Deafheaven – Dream House (2/10)
I think this comment on YouTube sums up the track:
Quote
This is music created from growing up in an a.d.d. society with access to thousands of different types of music at all times and ejaculating that confusion and over stimulation all over the metal. Love it.
Except I don't love this. This was pretty painful to listen to honestly. Sorry.

wolfking: Redemption -  The Suffocating Silence (6.5/10)
Pretty decent prog metal song. Pretty generic prog metal stuff. I still like it though, I like prog metal in general so..

YtseBitsySpider: Ozric Tentacles – Holohedron (5/10)
I've heard talk of this group before. IIRC doesn't JR love these guys? I can totally see why, but it's not quite up my alley. It's not by any means bad, but it doesn't excite me at all. I wouldn't put it past this group to have some tracks that would blow me away (like Shpongle), but this one doesn't.

Total Score:
senecadawg2: 19
Shadow Ninja 2.0: 16
Nekov: 15.5
Tyrias: 15
Scorpion: 14.5
Ben_Jamin: 14
Big Hath : 14
YtseBitsySpider: 13.5
kingshmegland: 12.5
wolfking: 12
adace: 7.5

Round 3: Send me something that will make me feel good. I've already had some great submissions damn near making me cry, let me have some of the opposite. (Progasms usually do the trick)
