What's (in) your wallet made of?
« on: April 18, 2014, 05:32:48 PM »
OK, I need wallet suggestions. My current wallet, thin and awesome as it is, has a habit of ruining the magnetic strip of my credit cards.

Go.

Hmmm....

I've never had a super thin wallet, so maybe that affects it, but when I do is put my cards all in one of the card pockets together, and I've never had problems with any of them getting bad.

Duct tape.

But seriously, I'm not sure if it's plastic or plasticized fabric but I'd gotten it at Spencer's a couple years ago and it's surprisingly durable.

I seem to get a leather trifold for Christmas every few years and have never had issues with demagnetization. You do remove your wallet before coitus, yes?

My wallet is just leather made by Oakley (https://www.oakley.com/products/leather-wallet-small/95004-001), and it's the smaller removable part of the big (Costanza) wallet that holds only cash and a few cards.  I've purchased this wallet twice and never used the big part.

When I was younger I lost many wallets, so for about ten years I either used a rubber band, or a money clip. But about 10 years ago, for practicle purposes I started carrying a wallet again, and it started to become like a Costanza wallet. So, two years ago, I bought a FOSSIL slim executive wallet. It has one vertical, and one horizontal flap, so I can easily access my identification, or my credit cards; or have room for cash. It's so thin, I can comfortably store it in a suit jacket, or even my front pants pockets, which I often do. I hate sticking my wallet in the back pocket of my pants. With my wallet you can't even tell I'm carrying it. And the quality of this wallet is excellent. As long as they'll continue to make them, I'll never own a different one. It's 100% leather, and I've never had a magetic strip issue.
When closed its probably 2.5 x 3" and about 1/2" thick.
I love this wallet so much I'd be a spokesperson and they wouldn't have to pay me.

I don't think the card is getting demagnetized, but the sliding of the card in and out of the wallet is wearing out the strip.  I've had a few cards do that.

That said, I use a leather wallet and don't have that trouble.  I also don't use credit/debit cards that often.

I love my wallet. This isn't it but it's very close, the only difference is that mine is better. The emblem is gold and it's a higher quality leather.

But it's still shit.  :lol Gets the job done though and it's purdy, so yay. But yeah leather. At this point, really worn leather.

I don't think the card is getting demagnetized, but the sliding of the card in and out of the wallet is wearing out the strip.  I've had a few cards do that.

That's exactly what's happening. The strip gets physically damaged (partially also because of stores' old readers of course).

Btw, weren't cards supposed to have chips in them at some point? It seems anything involving money in the United States is doomed to stay in the 19th century.

I also only carry the smaller removable portion of my larger wallet; it really does cut-down on bulky pockets... especially in a suit.

I just got these two last week. Super thin and incredibly durable. Or, you could design your own.
