I'm absolutely thunderstrucked. Truly one of the greatest acts  :-[

I can't think any other rock guitarist who had more fun playing that instrument than Angus Young

It's about time.

*runs*

Nah, I've always liked their big hits, but I'm really just sick and tired of hearing them.

That's not really the sad part when you read:

More than a month ago, founding member, rhythm guitarist, co-producer and co-songwriter Malcolm Young had a stroke, which left a blood clot on his brain.

Thanks for the music guys.   :metal

My favorite visual from seeing AC/DC was Malcolm and Cliff Williams coming up to the front of the stage for background vocals.
They'd start walking up at exactly the same time. I would keep thinking, they're never going to make it, and then, bang, dead on timing.
Then they'd turn in unison and walk to the rear of the stage to their spots in front of their amps as is nothing had ever happened. :lol

Yup. Haven't seen them in 25 years, but that's what I remember as well.

Kind of mixed feelings about the whole thing (excepting Malcolm who I have nothing but high regards for). On the one hand, Back in Black was one of the three albums that set me down the path of heavy metal, rather than say, country or some shit. AC/DC was also the first concert I ever saw (with the mighty Fastway opening up). That really blew my mind. At the same time I haven't cared for anything they've done in ages and Bryan Johnson can't really pull off his vocals live so them calling it a career doesn't really bother me much.

One thing I've noticed in keeping up with the news reports is that Malcolm Young is really the center of this whole story and yet every article you open up has a picture of Angus and a picture of Angus/Johnson. Nobody ever bothered taking any pictures of the other guys.

That article says nothing is confirmed....and furthermore, this denial was issued a few hours later...

Yup. Angus, then Angus and Johnson.  :lol

Anyhoo, as I just posted elsewhere, there's definitely something going on. It might not be as serious as the rumors suggest, but it's not a non-event either. They cancelled a project a few months ago due to a health situation and asked for privacy. Sounds to me like somebody let some details slip.

Now that original article has been updated again, and RE-insisting that it is true...even claiming that an official announcement is expected within the next day or two.

I feel really sad for the entire Young family and Malcolm's immediate family in particular if this is true.    :'(

Indeed. Aren't most of the band somewhere around the mid 60's ?

Plus they've been going for 41 years.

It was going to happen sooner or later - it's just a shame it happened how it has.

Life is so unfair sometimes when it just "decides" things for you.

Even if they were going to retire soon, it would be sad to have it end this way, on such a sad note. As pointed out, you always see Angus/Brian, but Malcolm is perhaps the unsung hero of the band, and if he can't play, it would only be right to not continue on.
But they've had a long and impressive run at a consistent level, and their legacy will carry on, so they can be proud of that.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Very sad if true. I saw them for the first time just before Bon Scott died; and I've seen them about 8 times since. Always a great show. I can remember the day Back in Black came out. Me and two friends drove to the store and I bought the album. We smoked a joint and drove to my friend Kerrys house where his parents weren't home, put the needle on the record, cranked it up and were blown away. We were so high when Hells Bells came on, we were in awe and reverence because of Bons passing.  :lol My friend Bruce upon hearing that first bell said, "Thats for Bon Scott!" and our friend Jeff teared up. We all lost it laughing, and razzed him so hard, we had to start the album over. Everytime an AC/DC song came on the radio from then on, in Jeff's presence, someone would say, "Everybody, look out. Jeff's gonna cry!"

Would love to see them one more time. But more importantly hope MY is okay.

This whole time I thought everyone was talking about Angus Young.

I'm not that knowledgable about AC/DC members.

That's the one I see as irreplaceable. But who writes the songs ?

Angus is the one I think of when I think of AC/DC...

I'm not big on AC/DC, but I think Malcom is the biggest part in the songwriting of the bands songs.  Sure, anyone can play his parts, but IMO he's just a crucial as Angus.

IIRC Angus and Malcolm did it all together, with Scott/Johnson also contributing lyrics. So yes, Malcolm was as much a part of that process as Angus.

Cool.  For some reason I though Malcom did a lot more than Angus in the songwriting department.  Not sure why I though that.

Fantastic story, TempusVox.  :lol

If this is the case, it's truly unfortunate that they have to put an end to their career this way, but still, they had quite a run.

To use a KISS comparison we keep hearing lately, Gene is the face of KISS and Paul Stanley is the soul of the band.

Angus may be the face of AC/DC, but Malcolm is its soul.  There is no AC/DC without Malcolm -- he's the equal if not greater songwriter to Angus and the undisputed leader of the band since it's early days when brother George also steered them.

I guess it's their decision to make, but I'm surprised they would continue without Malcolm. He's been the foundation of the band.

I thought this would be another one of the countless fake news about AC/DC retiring which started to come up since the internet became more widespread - 95 or 96, when they finished touring the Ballbreaker album. But I guess the news about Malcolm are true then. I never thought they would decide to carry on without him, even though they have toured before whilst he was in rehab, in 1988 (Blow Up Your Video Tour).

Not surprised.  With a 40th anniversary tour supposedly on their horizon, they aren't just gonna ditch that big of a payday.
