The Tears for Fears Thread
« on: April 15, 2014, 11:44:27 AM »
I couldn't believe there wasn't a thread for this great band.  I've always loved them.  I've been hooked on them the past couple days.  Their music went beyond the synth stuff of the 1980s and was very thought-provoking.  I love Roland's voice.  They've been working on a new album for the past year.  It will be the first in like a decade, I think.  Can't wait.  From what I read, it's "dark."  Let's appreciate this band!

I was so happy to hear that Tears For Fears were working on new material. Their last album, Everybody Loves a Happy Ending, produced two of their best songs ever in my opinion: "Secret World" and "Closest Thing to Heaven." Such a fantastic group!

The Seeds of Love is one of my favourite pop albums ever! I once heard the near-title-track described (very accurately imo) as "The Beatles + ELO". Woman in Chains has a great crescendo of sound leading to a late drum entry. The whole album is just ambitious and wonderfully composed.

I actually haven't listened to that album as much as the others.  It didn't grab me much when it came out.  I felt like it wasn't as dark and emotional as some of their earliest stuff, which is what drew me to them.  But I'm giving it another listen now with fresh ears!

Damn! I didn't know they were working on a new album. That's awesome! I absolutely love Tears and grew up on them. They were one of the first bands I remember hearing and the first band that got me invested in music to begin with.

By far and away my favorite album is Raoul, but I like The Hurting a lot more than Elemental overall (despite still really liking Elemental); I think the pre-breakup era has it's classics but overall I love Raoul so much that it kinda overshadows everything else. In summation, everything is awesome. Kinda weary on albums after such a long hiatus, but that could also be a really good thing I think so...I'll just hear it when I hear it and see how it is. Not expecting it to even come close to reaching levels of the past but then again nostalgia will make sure that never happens.

I only mentioned The Seeds of Love in my last post here. I also have to mention Shout. Probably the most epic pop song of the 80s. 6:30 of fist-clenched ambition.

Is it them that did "ordinary world" ? Or is that Duran Duran ? :lol

Plus I like their Donnie Darko song...

Beyond that I don't know much about them.

Umm.....that's Duran Duran.

And, the song Mad World came out a long time before the movie.  The one that was used for the movie was a cover.

I actually think my fav TFF album is Elemental.  There are some solid tunes on that album.  And has any listened to Roland's solo album from the early 2000s called Tomcats Creaming Outside?  Mmm, that is some good stuff.

Yeah that's a great album and might as well toss some love for Raoul And The Kings Of Spain.

God damn, I really love Elemental. Haven't listened to it for a while and forgot how many classics there are. Even the more mellow songs I absolutely adore; Gas Giants and Mr. Pessimist are amazing. That album will flip flop with Raoul for eternity.

Elemental is also a great album.

Pretty good band, definitely haven't gotten the attention they deserve.  Fantastic songwriting.

I'm liking the newest album and the songs from ...Big Chair I had never heard before to want to keep digging.  I had Seeds of Love on cassette at the time, but have zero recollection of it outside of Sowing the Seeds of Love (which is still one of my all-time favorite tunes).

I haven't heard much by them but I like most of what I've heard. I'd heard "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" before, which I don't care for, but my formal introduction was the Elemental album, which I think is great. "Shout" and "Head Over Heels" are good songs too.

Kev here are the 2 singles from the 2 albums that were only with Roland.  I think you'll like them.
