The first album was great, but I didn't dig the second at all.  Didn't give it much of a chance though.

#2 was definitely a significant dropoff - 1/2 killer (and I'm being generous here with the term "killer"), and 1/2 definitely filler.

To be fair, my interest pretty much fell off when Roland left.

He left the band not long after the first album was released.  The second, even though I only listened through it once, was way below par compared to the first.

I tried it earlier this year, eager to see what Cellador was like - as they showed up in a lot of "similar artist" lists on last.fm and Spotify.

I was disappoint.

I love that album. It has one totally lame song, but it's a lame cover song.

I liked their first album, so I thought maybe I would like their new one, but I don't think there's a single original riff, melody or chorus on that album. But then again, you can say the same thing about most power metal albums these days.

I honestly don't know what to think of this.  It's like the band are struggling to find the sound and look they are going for.  It's like a mix of power metal, a more modern BFMV style American metal, punk with the singer looking like he could be doing country or something.  Nothing I'd check out, but not the worst thing I've heard.

NOCTURNAL RITES sign with AFM / new album „Phoenix“ out in late September!

There are bands which are badly missed once they disappear from the scene. One of those examples are Swedish melodic metal masters Nocturnal Rites - The Official Site who released their latest album “The 8th Sin” in 2007 and afterwards slowly slipped into a hiatus kind of situation.
We are happy to come up with good news now: NOCTURNAL RITES are back! And not only that; the band has just put finishing touches on their brand new album, titled “Phoenix”, which will be released on September 29th via AFM.
The band states: “We can’t wait to share this new album with everyone. It’s been long overdue. Needless to say, it feels great to finally be back."

Anyone else pick up Phoenix by Nocturnal Rites?  Really digging the album, it's more melodic metal than power metal at this point although there's definitely a few classic power metal sounding songs.  It feels like they continued where they left off even though it's been so long since their last album.  Welcome to the End and The Ghost Inside Me are currently my favorite tracks.    Can't wait to see them next year at ProgPower, that's like a dream come true since I've been a fan for awhile and never thought I'd be able to see them, especially after such a long hiatus.
