I have their debut but have never got around to listening to it.........often happens - I do the research , get it and move on to look for the next gem . Or maybe I just thought they looked like fucking idiots :lol

They might just convert Blob to power metal - looks like a Transformer on lead vox.

Give it a listen, it's one of the better power metal releases from the last few years.
Despite the less than serious image and sometimes very mythical lyrics, it all comes together in the music.

Genres are so weird nowadays. So many bands get categorized in ways they shouldnt be. So many bands can be categorized in a ton of different genres but get pigeonholed. Hammerfall has certainly done stuff that is classic power metal, but a LOT of their stuff is very much traditional metal in the style of Maiden. Iced Earth I do not think is power metal but always get put in that category. Same with Nevermore (RIP). Helloween does power metal and are known as the originators of it, but if you look through their discography there is a lot different style: traditional metal, progressive, Nu-metal, glam, and so on.

A lot of these bands have songs that could be radio hits but won't because of this. Done ranting.

I can't take it - it's all I dislike in power metal rolled into one.

They love coming up with dodgy album titles.

I don't know how I'm going to go into this one.  Delivering the Black is by far their finest hour and probably would make my top 50.  It's simply one of the best heavy metal albums ever IMO.  Don't know how they can live up to that one.  So looking forward to it though.

I want to squeeze in some classic Maiden too.

I don't think quite as highly of it - it was my first PF album after I became a fan, so it's got that going for it.  One of the better albums of 2014.

Now THIS looks interesting:

Quote from: Facebook
Napalm Records is proud to announce the signing of Phantasma, the new Symphonic Rock musical of Charlotte Wessels (Delain), Georg Neuhauser (Serenity) and Oliver Philipps (Everon).

PHANTASMA was born from the longstanding ambition to create a story driven concept record of Georg Neuhauser, vocal force behind Tyrolean Symphonic Metal outfit Serenity. He found his partner in crime with multi-instrumentalist composer, producer and vocalist Oliver Philipps (Everon) who gladly embarked on this new mission that allowed him to reconnect with being a musician in the first place, as a welcome change from working for other bands, which he has done extensively over the years, providing the rich sound connoisseurs of the genre have come to expect from him. As Oliver worked with DELAIN since their debuting record, a request at Charlotte Wessels’ address was made to complete the dynamic trio of PHANTASMA. To introduce Charlotte Wessels to any connoisseur of Symphonic metal would be like carrying coals to Newcastle - she is, after all, since 2005 the vocal figurehead of Dutch grandees DELAIN. It is therefore not only surprising, but also gratifying that Charlotte now even found some leisure time, to lend not only her voice to PHANTASMA but also her debut novella “The Deviant Hearts” - which was written especially for the project.

Thomas Caser, Napalm Records Vice President comments:
„We are thrilled to announce the signing of PHANTASMA which is one of the most exciting projects of the genre. Charlotte, Georg and Oliver have created a magical album and a fantastic concept and story to come with it. This is a must-have for all fans of this music!”

PHANTASMA states:
"We have truly enjoyed giving a shape, face and sound to "The Deviant Hearts". It was an inspiring and exciting process and we can not wait to share the result of our efforts with you through the upcoming release with Napalm Records."

“The Deviant Hearts” track-listing:
01. Incomplete
02. The Deviant Hearts (Give us a Story)
03. Runaway Grey
04. Try
05. Enter Dreamscape
06. Miserable Me
07. The Lotus And The Willow
08. Crimson Course
09. Carry Me Home
10. The Sound Of Fear
11. Novaturient
12. Let It Die
13. Symphony of Light (Bonus Track)

“The Deviant Hearts” will hit the stores on November 20th and will be available in the formats listed below:
- Ltd Edition Earbook, Bonus Track, 48 Page Booklet including Novel “The Deviant Hearts” + 2 Bonus CD’s incl. “The Deviant Hearts” AUDIOBOOK read by Charlotte Wessels.
- Ltd Edition 6 Page Digipack & Bonus Track - 100 Page Booklet including Novel “The Deviant Hearts” & Digipack Sleeve.
-Regular Jewel Case Edition.
-Digital Download.

Since there's no Gamma Ray thread (travesty!), I guess this goes here:

Anybody ever notice how the bridge of Real World sounds EXACTLY like Priest's The Sentinel? There's even some lyrics that are pretty close, and it's super close in terms of music as well.

Gamma Ray are pretty open with their influences.  They have many songs with basically rip offs of older songs, mainly Priest.  That is indeed one of them.  Others off the top of my head;

Opportunity (middle section) - The Clairvoyant (Iron Maiden)
Solid (verses) - Rapid Fire (Judas Priest)
Heading For Tomorrow (main riff)- Victim of Changes (Judas Priest)
Hand of Fate (verses) - Dissident Aggressor (Judas Priest)
To the Metal (main riff) - Metal Gods (Judas Priest)
Time To Live (chours) - I Want Out (Helloween)
My Temple (breakdown around 3:00)- Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (Black Sabbath)
Time For Deliverance (chours) - We Are the Champions (Queen)
