Metallica - Blackened (cover) [Axe-FxII Tone Matching]
« on: December 21, 2013, 06:35:08 AM »
Hi guys! I know there are millions of covers of this band, but I think my is kinda different in some way. I managed to get almost the exact sound of the original recording using Fractal Audio Axe-FxII. Check it out!

YouTube says it's blocked in my region due to copyright blah blah, so unfortunately I couldn't listen. :(
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Those YouTube copyright and regional issues are getting more and more frustrating. I'm afraid there's nothing I can do about it. Shame... Thanks for trying though! :)

Playing the main riff wrong though:

D|-----------------------------8------------------
A|---7---7---7-8-7---7---7---7---7---7---7-8
E| -0---0---0-------0---0--(6)--0---0---0-----

See the (6)? In the 2nd and 4th time, you play 6 on E String instead of always 8 in D string.

Thanks for the tip! That did the trick. I'll have to remember that one for in future. :tup

It sounded great. You matched the tone really well, except without the nasty woofy bass substitute (speaking of which, it's always weird hearing those AJFA songs with the bass mixed in properly!).
I think some of the harmonies might have been slightly off during the bridge section though?

I always considered the AJFA guitar tone something you'd want to steer clear from lol, guitars need some freaking mid range.  Great cover though :tup

Yeah, I know, I haven't noticed that, somebody pointed that out to me on some other forums.

Thanks! Yeah, the tone matched sound was really bassy so I put a high pass filter on the guitars to get rid of those woofy frequencies. And those harmonies, I don't know, I did it by ear and then verified it with the tab and it was ok to me.

Thank you! Yeah, AJFA is a damn weird sounding album. But it's fun to have almost the exact same tone, even though it's preety terrible by itself :)

I wouldn't worry that much... Between the Buried and Me did the exact same thing in their cover!

Awesome cover, dude. I love my Axe FX!
