The Singing Game
« on: November 06, 2013, 09:03:33 PM »
For singers and non-singers alike! A very simple game- one person names a line in a DT song, and everyone who wants to participate shares a small piece of audio or video of them singing that part. The person who came up with the line chooses a winner and that winner names the next line. The winner you choose is entirely your choice; it can be the person who sang the line the most on-key, most entertaining, most professionally, the funniest, most like the original, best overall- whatever you want!

You can upload your video or audio to whatever site we can all easily access and hear. Also, if you'd like to choose a line that's already been done before, that's perfectly cool if there's more people who want to try it, or want to try it again.

First line..... "Shaman take my HAAAAANDD!!"

Go!

Yeah, that's the thing. I'll definitely participate... SOMETIME... I'll probably record it tomorrow night. Even though I'm sick, but who knows how that'll turn out. Maybe it'll sound cool.  ;D

No one wants to be the first one to subject their singing to DTF's critical ear?

Fine, I'll go first.

Just a few things:
1. I am not at all a singer. I have had no vocal lessons or anything. My singing experience is entirely "singing along with music I like." Just wanted to clarify exactly where I'm coming from.
2. This is the best of several tries. Whenever I do record my voice, sometimes I think it's fairly good and sometimes I hate it. I can't always find a singing voice that sounds good to me. And I think this is also demonstrated by the fact that some people have complimented my singing voice and others have insulted it. Again, I'm not at all a trained singer, so my voice is very inconsistent.
3. Please please please for god's sake be honest. Like if this completely sucks tell me that (obviously tell me why it sucks so I know what to improve, but definitely tell me it sucks if it does). I don't want to wind up being hopelessly deluded about my singing abilities like the infrequent DTF visitor who will remain nameless.

Alright, here is my lovely and delightful rendition of "Shaman take my hand" from Bridges In the Sky: https://youtu.be/ecZlEgEs5dM

I edited the pitch back to somewhat normal, but it didn't really help.

That was lovely. I'm not being sexist, but we have a winner. I really liked the articulation and accenting, too.

Cause apparently I'm not giving the guys (vast majority of DTF) a chance after this. It's also a play on the extra attention girls tend to get on typically male dominated forums. Interesting that most DT cover bands I know of (2, that is), have a female singer.

Logix, it's just the absurd high notes he does (being male) that are more normal for a woman's voice. Or James is a bit female.

Thank you btw, but TheAtliator should decide on this right?

^ Too bad most of videos/files are not working anymore :-\

As for the lady's attempt: it was really a nice one with that A# touch, even if the real version is an octave higher and ends with a troublesome A4. I won't even attempt to do it since my range goes up to F4 at best.

The real version isn't an octave higher.

Yeah I was gonna mention that too, it was definitely the right octave. It could be mistaken for an octave lower because, at least to me, it sounded like you didn't have to strain your voice NEARLY as much as JLB or any guy would have to, being a girl and all. It almost sounded like it was comfortably near your speaking pitch.

Awesome good job! Mind if I ask what effects you used on your voice? I tinker around every now and then with recording but I can never seem to get the recording to sound right. Then I give up for a while.

Thanks! Just a touch of software reverb, 80% dry, 20% wet, and actually applied after the mixdown of the vocals and guitar tracks.

Wow Nef your voice really shines on that. Hard to beat but here I go. The volume is really low for some reason, so turn it up if you want it louder!

Thanks again! First I was all, "cool, now I can choose a line". Then I thought, "damn, that's harder than I expected it to be".

But I got one:
"The unbroken spirit, obscured and disquiet, finds clearness this trial demands" (Take The Time)

A lot of words in only a few seconds.
Looking forward to hearing the clips!
