Any Bryan Adams Fans in ?
« on: August 21, 2013, 09:47:43 AM »
I'm probably the only one i'm sure. :lol

Starting listening around 1991. Memory is a little hazy but I *think* I was already a fan before The Robin Hood Song ® ©.

- Waking up The Neighbours is a cracking album. Huge Production. Great solos by Keith Scott as ever.

- 18 Til I Die is decent. It was a little bit more low key than it's predecessor. Still has great tracks like " Black Pearl ".

- On A Day Like Today. A nice long album. Poppier than the previous two. Great fun to jam to on guitar though. Getaway is a highlight.

- Room Service. Probably not worth waiting six years for. Continuing the trend of getting mellower and more acoustic with each album. Not *bad* but I miss the big rock songs.

- 11. A little more like " On A Day Like Today ". In the  mould of Room Service but a touch more energy and bluster. Liked it a lot. Really nice production and a copious amount of slide guitar ;D Really big sounding album.

I think BA is under-rated as a vocalist. He can still do the full-voice shouty/screamy vocals like he did in 1991 and he's in his 50's now.

i've never been to a BA concert. Not sure if i'd enjoy it when they were just a trio with BA on bass. I'd want the full shebang with BA on guitar et al.

Cuts Like A Knife, Reckless and Waking Up The Neighbours are all really good Rock/Pop albums.

Movie magic:

Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You
Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, Sting - All For Love

Even though both movies are pretty meh (still good popcorn flicks), I get very nostalic hearing those songs and get reminded of how great songs and soundtrack can lift a movie.

I've seen BA live once and it was pretty cool hearing all those 80s and 90s hits, overall a very solid show.  :tup

Everything I Do is still a great song - it's just been played to death because it was at #1 in the UK for 16 weeks :P

In today's climate - I don't think a song will ever beat that ever.

This.  I didn't really follow any of his albums after Waking Up.  That 'Robin Hood' song is awful.  Absolutely hated it - like I do most songs that are made specifically for movies.

I was grounded and couldn't watch Robin Hood when it came out on video, but I was pretty obsessed with "The Robin Hood Song". It's still great, and I never got sick of it. I like all his other singles too, but I don't regularly listen to them.

His last studio album came out in 2008 so he's well overdue for another one. I'm not counting any of his soundtrack albums. Not really

interested in an entire CD of made for movies songs. Even though most of 18 Til I Die were in films.

BEST show i've ever seen any artists ever.

You are not alone!

Whilst I wouldn't go quite that far, that tour was absolutely fantastic.
I was a fan from seeing Lysette Anthony in the Run To You video  :heart.
Reckless was my first BA album and I played it to death back in the day. The Robin Hood song ruined him though. He went soppy after that.
Waking Up The Neighbours is the best Def Leppard album after Pyro and Hysteria  ;D

I really don't need to hear Summer Of '69 ever again though. One of my regular pubs has played that and Livin' On A Prayer back to back, every fucking time I've been in there for the last 20 years  >:(

I wouldn't really call myself a "fan" but I definitely appreciate the songwriting skills.  It's cool to write insane prog songs with half a dozen meter changes and all kinds of crazy-ass modal scale runs and poly-rhythms and shit, but creating, executing and producing a quality pop-rock album ain't as easy as some people may think it is.  It takes a certain.....gift....to come up with that stuff.  And only so many people have that gift.  For a few years there, Bryan Adams dominated FM Rock Radio and quite a few of his songs have stood the test of time.   :tup

LOVED BA once upon a time.  But haven't really listened since "Into The Fire" days.  Saw him a couple of times.  The tour for Fire was outstanding.

Saw him on this tour as well and it was a hard rocking fun show.  I was blown away how good they were live.

Was a big fan when Reckless came out, played that record to death. Also loved Into The Fire, but kinda lost interest with Waking Up The Neighbours. That one sounded too Def Leppardy and not in a good way.

Saw him two or three times in that period and every concert was great rocking fun. I remember the last one during the Waking Up tour. He played When The Night Comes, a song he wrote for Joe Cocker as the last encore and the crowd kept on singing "ohh ohh when the night comes" long after the lights went on. Spine-chilling moment for sure.

Nowadays I sometimes listen to Reckless when I'm in nostalgic mood but I wouldn't consider myself a fan anymore.
Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D

Sounds like the end of a Peter Gabriel show when he finishes with Biko.  The crowd keeps chanting, even into the parking lot.

Always appreciated his skill as a songwriter of good old fashioned rock songs with Jim Vallance, but the only album of his I loved-and I loved it pretty unreservedly-was Reckless. That was a fucking brilliant rock album. Even the lesser tracks would have been side one, song one classics for other acts. He never got that good again, but man, for one album he got everything right.

Waking Up The Neighbours was HUGE for me.

I played it so much that I had to buy THREE cassettes of it !!!

They kept breaking :lol

Eventually I bought it on CD and i'm still not bored of it.

He probably won't be that good again but 11 is not too shabby for what it is...

This is pretty funny - halfway thru the song he suddenly starts singing in a country accent.

Anyone dig on the acoustic, slower version of "I'm Ready" from his acoustic album?  He changed the song so drastically, but i can't get enough of it.  Best electric-to-acoustic transformation!

Is that from MTV Unplugged or Bare Bones ?

Bare Bones is extremely stripped down. Basically him , an acoustic and a piano.

Great album.

It had to have been from MTV Unplugged.  He had a full band behind him.  Instead of the guitar solo, it was something along the lines of a tin whistle.  Its quite haunting.  Best version of that song.  The type that gives you goosebumps.

Not really a fan, but I like his music. I had "18 Til I Die" (still my fave album) and a Greatest Hits, on cassette. Loved both. Didn't really get into his other albums. A song here, a song there.

I was a fan around the time of Into The Fire but haven't taken much notice since.   He can still cut it live but most of the new material I have heard has been very snoozeworthy.

Fantastic pop/rock singer/songwriter.  Glad to hear he has something new coming out.  I will check it out.

It's 13 tracks - which is 9 brand new songs and then 4 of the songs acoustic.
