More to post about mine later, but here they are.  Mom (right) and son.  Portuguese Water Dogs.  Mrs.Jingle gets cruel with them every now and then.

This one as a puppy has that "Are you shittin me!!!!" look.

That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad

Dogs are great.  They make much better pets than cats for sure.  My only complaint about dogs would be those who bark excessively, but that's more of an owner issue.  Not the dog's fault.

EX-ACTLY!  My dogs rarely bark, only when they feel the need to defend their turf.

Why do people snip tails?

Well, my dog is a Patterdale Terrier and he had his tail snipped because if he was a working dog he'd be going down rat/rabbit holes and getting the rats out the ground. Apparently they can then get pulled out by their tail if they get stuck and if it was too long it'd break easily.

Also, sometimes it's aesthetics, long tail on a little dog is a bit silly :P

My dog:

Name: Ossie
Weight: 14kg
Age: 7/8
Breed: Patterdale Terrier
Likes: Jumping out of windows, Costing me a fortune, being my best friend.
Dislikes: People leaving him alone.

In my experience, dogs that bark excessively were ignored too much as puppies. If you pay appropriate attention to your dogs through the first 2 years they will rarely bark--like Jingle says, unless they are threatened.

Cute additions today!

Yeah, I agree with this. My dog is a bit excessive because he doesn't like people coming into the house/knocking on the door which can get a bit difficult.

But otherwise he's amazing. I was told by the vet that my dog isn't typical of his breed because he's really good with her and will actually let her do what she needs to do. Apparently the ones she's seen previously have all been pains and had to muzzle them :P

Name: Nakoda
Age: (almost) 6
Breed: Portuguese Water Dog
Likes: walks, food, sleep, invading bathroom's while you're pinching one off.
Dislikes: Water (wtf??)

Mrs.jingle's cousin breeds them.  She called us in late '07 because one of her pups got kicked in the eye by her mom while feeding, and they thought he might be blind in the one eye.  So, we agreed to take him.  Turns out, the eye cleared up no problem, and he's got perfect vision.  Great addition to the family.  This picture is 5 years old, but he's almost fully grown here anyway.

Name: Hershe
Age: (almost) 8
Breed: see above
Likes: chillin, getting Nakoda hyper, stealing/sharing any petting she can get
Dislikes: relieving herself in public

Hershe is Nakoda's mom.  She was a breeding dog who went into 'retirement' last year.  So, we offered to take her in, and now have mom and son under the same roof.  All the good pictures are on Mrs.jingle's computer.  I'll see if I can find more later.

Like I said, Mrs.jingle likes to abuse them.

(that's my dear brother, and he's a big dude, to give you a feel for the scale
Name: (Mary Godwin Wollstonecraft) Shelley
Age: we don't know for sure, the vet said about 9 months?
Breed: Mixed, we think she has a bit of husky in her because the bottom part of her snout, her fur and her behavior are very husky-ish.
Likes: food all the time, fetching, catching flies, people petting her, licking smelly human feet, baths!
Dislikes: People leaving the house and not taking her, cats

My mom got her about two months ago from an animal shelter in another city; she's been looking at pictures of dogs on facebook pages of such shelters for months, and when she showed us her picture, my sister said: "if you really wanna have a dog, take this one". She's essentially my mom's dog, but since my mom works 7-15, we take care of her when she's not around.

She's really affectionate I'm off to squish 'er right now :heart

everyone's dogs are soooooo lovely.

Nora is a 1.5 year old golden "Morkie" (Yorkie Maltese mix. NUGGETZ)
She weighs around 5 lbs.
She love people. Doesn't matter who they are.
She is also probably the most unintelligent dog I have ever met...  but we love her anyway

Back when she was still a few months old, before her first trim

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Awesome thread! :metal :metal :metal

Name: Full name -Sissy Majestic, we call her - Sissy, Bear, Wubbers, Wubs....or any combo
Weight: 65 lbs
Age: 13.5 (gotta love that grey face)
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Likes: Sleeping all day, dog park, the beach, and did I mention sleeping all day?  :lol
Dislikes: cats and possums walking on our concrete wall

Sissy is a Love Bug.  She is super affectionate and has lots of love to give.  On the flip side, she loves her attention, and at times will even whine for some lovin...LOL.  A real attention whore... :lol  She's been an awesome companion and family member for the last 13+ years.  Now almost completely grey in the face and slowing down a bit, we fear her time is not far away.  All you can do is enjoy their company while they're still with us  :)

Name: Full name - King Louie, We called him - Lou, Babalou, Loubird
Weight: 55 lbs
Age: passed 2011 at age of 10.5
Breed: Boxer
Likes: dog park, eating....EVERYTHING, escaping from the yard
Dislikes: not getting enough attention

Lou passed in 2011 at the age of 10.5, which is about normal for a Boxer.  He was a great dog, a real character.  Boxers are such great family dogs.  Also so expressive.  Lou was no exception.  His eyes told stories... :lol  You could actually read his looks (or I'd like to think so).  He was also a bed hog...  he'd get between us and stretch out, pushing us to the edges of the bed.

One of younger Sissy and Lou....

Name: Full name - Issabelle.  We called her - Issabelle, Izzy, Boo, Izzyboo
Weight: 65 lbs
Age: passed 1999 at age of 3.5
Breed: Pit/Boxer
Likes: playing in the hose stream, dog park
Dislikes: none

Yes, 14 years was a long time ago, but I mention Izzy any chance I can.  She was by far the best dog I've ever owned.  She was so smart, and really did nothing bad.  The mix of Pit/Boxer is a GREAT mix.  She would actually smile when you came home, her top lip would recede exposing her teeth as she snuffled and got excited.  She was quite the ambassador too.  When me and the ex would get into fights, she would literally put herself between us, distracting us and making us stop arguing.  We lost her WAY too soon.  She was killed by a 5 in 1 vaccination shot.  It overwhelmed and destroyed her immune system.  I always tell the story to other dog owners in the hopes that they will learn not to do the combo shots. Since then I've heard kids vaccinations should be treated the same, no multiples.

Boxers ( / boxer mixes) are great dogs. My ex's family had 2 Boxer / Norwegian Ridgeback mixes. 2 of the sweetest, most loyal and most intelligent dogs I have ever known.

I miss my uncles Doberman Pinscher. One of the sweetest dogs on the planet as far as I was concerned. Actually understood the concept of hide-n-seek. We have a couple Shibas and Akitas in the extended family now. Fun dogs to play with when I visit.

Just saw the movie Hachi last week for the first time. Great tear jerker movie!

I love dogs. Lots of people love dogs. Show off your pooch and give us a little back story.

Name: Mia (nicknames include: Puppy, Little One, and Milosh)
Age: 49 doggy years
Weight: 6.3 pounds
Interests: Finding sun patches throughout the house, staring aimlessly into the backyard, and knitting.

This is not my dog. Her name is Lola and she lives in the neighborhood over. She always brings me gifts. She's a sweetheart, I swear.

I swear Lola looks like she is carrying a deer leg in her mouth.  The end looks like a hoof, but probably something on the road.
