DJ Quik dropped a new album, it has some good tracks.

Still waiting for Ice Cube's new one  ::)  It's become another Detox: delay after delay

New Run the Jewels is fantastic. Less energy than the first but I dig the production/beats more. Love it.

Yeah, it's pretty good, not sure if i will end up liking it more than the debut but, yet again, they manage to release one of the best albums of the year.

Thinking about it, they released Cancer 4 Cure, RAP Music, Run The Jewels and RTJ2, all ranging from good to great, in a period of 3 years. Considering the state of music today, that's pretty impressive.

I bought it, but I haven't given it a pin yet. I still have yet to listen to F&L2. Which I also bought on its release day... and haven't listened to... two years later. I've got some fucked up priorities musically.  :lol

So, I've fallen in love with DJ Shadow's Endtroducing....., and would like to dig deeper into hip hop. I'd love to check all the classics like Enter the Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, and Liquid Swords, but after talking with a friend about how I disliked The Low End Theory's focus on rap rather than in music (the only other hip hop record I've listened so far), he told me that's something common in old-school period of the genre. And I think I read that it is almost as big as the metal or electronic music realms, thus this might be tough, so - what albums would you recommend me? I don't dig monotonous rap vocal lines, so I'd prefer something more melodic. And with a great focus in songwriting. Thanks  :D .

Melodic hip-hop with good songwriting?  Those are kind of opposites.  Most hip-hop is a beat/music loop and not melodic.  The only ones that come to mind are full bands like New Apple Taste or Q-Tip's Kamaal The Abstract album.  I guess Outkast would fit although I don't like them.  Beck has some songs with a good mix of melody and hip hop.

To be honest, Kanye does some great things with melody in his raps.  I guess Bone Thugs n Harmony use a shit ton of melody in their raps too.  But to listen to rapping for melody is kinda beside the point.

No offense, but it's pretty obvious that you haven't listened to a new hip hop artist since the 90s

Yeah, I kind of knew I was asking for something crazy. I don't dislike rap nor it has to be melodic, but it being the focus of the songs is what bores me - I guess that, like growls, its kind of an acquired taste and will eventually get used to it. Will surely check that Madvillainy album and the other recs. Thanks guys - I hope to get more into the genre and post regularly here ;D .

You can't go wrong with Madvilliany - definitely one of the great hip-hop albums.

EDIT: Sacul, you should give J Cole's Born Sinner album a go.  I think it has some excellent songwriting and some great melody.  He has a knack for writing good hooks.  It's a shame he's largely overlooked because I think in terms of writing strong, catchy hooks he's lightyears ahead of some of the other HH artists around today.

Anyone around here fuck wit J Cole (lol rap terminology) ?

K'naan has melody to his stuff, though its like a blend of Hip-Hop, poetry.

Wax is another great artist whom adds melody.

I'll also recommend Dead Prez.

Made a Spotify playlist with all your recs guys, with the most popular songs from each artists/album. Madvilain has some interesting retro samples, but I don't dig the vocals too much - it's like the singer was either bored or refraining himself from putting more energy into his singing. But I found myself liking Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, I think that's the nearest rec I found that somehow met my weird criteria of songwriting/variety :lol . Kind of like the vocals a bit too.

And the band in bold really stood out for me - I love some trip-hop elements in my music, and what I've listened of Dummy so far has been great. Massive Attack never clicked with me for some reason, although I enjoy some of their tunes. The rest of your recs weren't bad, will give them more listens to see if they grow on me - will report later. Thank you guys  .
