That album is one of my all-time favorites.  Have you checked out Run The Jewels, his full-on collaboration with El-P (the guy who produced R.A.P. Music)?  The album was available for free download when it first came out, not sure about now.

This song helped shape my view of what rap music is growing up.  Hardcore beat, simple music, LL spittin fire.  Doesn't get more perfect than this IMO.

How decent is Jay-z's catalogue?

I just listened to interview of him and I have to say I have a lot respect for him. He's very street smart, articulate and I like what he has to say.

Any really must have albums by him? I don't even know where to start.

You can start with him being the second banana to Jaz in the early 90's when he wasn't so full of himself.  Look up the song The Originators.

Must have Jay-Z albums? Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint and The Black Album.

So, um, Death Grips just released another surprise album (or at least the first half of one). Discuss.

If you can get past the violence, these Bloods & Crips have great stuff.  Classic beats, great vocals for a bunch of gang bangers.

Just discovered this.  There's a reason James Brown gets ripped off so much, it makes for great rap songs!  I love old school samples like this!

Similar vocals and production to 80's Fresh Prince.  Loved it as a kid and still do.  Also nice to hear Jay-Z without the giant ego.

Hmm that's tough.

30 by Danny Brown is up there, it's probably my favourite closer to an album ever. Artifical Death in the West by Death Grips is another candidate. Jazz (We've Got) by A Tribe Called Quest, Triumph by Wu Tang Clan.

Is anyone here into Flying Lotus?  I really love Until the Quiet comes.  He has a new album coming out that sounds pretty fucking cool.  Listened to Mastodon and Gojira for inspiration, what a boss!

https://vevo.ly/pUOtpH - One of the tracks from the new album with Kendrick on vocals.  Its so good.  Apparently Kendrick has like 12-13 Flying Lotus beats that he's sitting on so its possible we may see some FlyLo on the next Kendrick LP :O

:tup its some next level sheeeit.  I'm excited to hear the new album, especially the Kimbra collab.

I've been on a big FlyLo/Thundercat buzz as of late.  Thundercat is such a monster on the bass.

Thundercat's Apocalypse is so gahdamn good, and his bass solo on the Kimbra album is amazing. His brother is a BEAST on the drums, he's like ultimate speed but hits the drums hard as fuck as well.  Played for Stanley Clarke so you know he's got chops.

I really love Apocalypse, I don't think theres a bad track on it tbh.  I love the way you can hear the influence from like Earth Wind and Fire on Oh Sheit it's X all the way to the Zappa-esque melody on Seven.

New FlyLo is great, its pretty dense, so its taking a little while to settle in but I really dig it so far.
