Comparing BTTF to The Matrix at all is sacrilege. The Matrix sequels were garbage, especially the third movie.

Despite the flaws, the BTTF sequels are at least fun and go by quickly. I feel like The Matrix sequels are a chore to get through (though the first movie is awesome).

Well, I'm certainly not defending the Matrix trilogy.

I was just talking dropoff from the first to the other two.

The Star Wars and LOTR films are very consistent in quality across the trilogy.

That's all I'm saying.

Of course, if you think the BTTF sequels are as good as (or better than) the first, you will obviously have a difference of opinion.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Yeah the Matrix sequels are nowhere near as good as the BTTF sequels. I will slightly defend Reloaded because it has a few great sequences, but it's worse than BTTF2, and BTTF3 spanks Revolutions so hard there's no question about it.

Everyone says Matrix 3 is the worst one but i recently watched 2 and 3 in one go and 3 is just so much better than 2.

Reloaded adds almost nothing of consequence to the overall plot and has loads of new characters that are not necessary.

Take a few scenes from Reloaded - edit Revolutions down and throw in a few of the extra scenes you filmed for the video game and you have a decent sequel.

But the first one ended so perfectly that no sequel was needed. Neo is the one. He defeated Smith. He tells the machines their days are numbered. He shows humanity the truth by flying in broad

daylight.

END. Perfect.

I agree that the sequels were mostly tripe. Matrix 1 isn't even as good as The Original BTTF.

BTTF 2 & 3 were almost as good the the original.

Some people even think that BTTF 2 is the best one - and nobody thinks Matrix 2 is the best one.

..except Nostalgia Critic - but he's a f---ing moron.

I like The Matrix more than BTTF2 (my favorite of the BTTF franchise), but I think if you put the trilogies next to each other, BTTF is the clear winner.

Yes indeed.

I hate The Nostalgia Critic already. Half In the Bag for the win. But when he said Matrix 2 is the best one that was it for me. :lol

I can understand people saying BTTF 2 or 3 is the best one but I cannot understand anyone thinking Matrix 2 is the best one.

Also Robert Zemeckis has a much better track record than The Wachowskis.

Back To The Future trilogy
Romancing The Stone
Roger Rabbit
Cast Away
Forrest Gump
Contact
Flight

I'm thinking about going to see " The Walk " later as well.

Reloaded has a few sequences that are really great, like Neo fighting all the Smiths, the highway scene (one of the best of the trilogy) and I like it when he's fighting all those guys at the palace place. But for every great sequence there's also some really lame stuff, like the Neo/Trinity sex scene during the wtf-Rave party at Zion. I think Reloaded introduced some interesting ideas, like the keymaker and the endless hallway of doors, but AS a movie it's not the best. Let's not forget the architect scene, one of the worst scenes in history in terms of just explaining the exposition dialogue to the audience directly.

Yeah the architect scene was like WTF? To me that was The Wachowskis just stroking their own ego and showing everyone how clever they were and how much they read philosophy.

" Apes don't read philosophy "

" Yes they do Otto. They just don't understand it. "

Plus the Matrix sequels only add fire to the rumour that they pretty much stole the idea for the first one then had to write the sequels on their own.

Really good directors though. Not very good at scripts.

EDIT

The Architect scene should have been

Hello Neo I am the Architect the creator of the Matrix.  What they haven't told you is that you are the 7th person to meet me here. The Matrix was designed just to control the 1% of people

who cannot accept the reality of the Matrix. Your purpose all along was to get to this point - and sacrifice yourself to save x amount of people in Zion for this all to start over again.

However - if you choose to exit through the other door - everyone dies. Your decision.

I feel like what's so great about the BTTF movies is that they feel cohesive like a trilogy. With The Matrix it definitely felt like the first one stood on its own and the rest was just milking it, and going off the rails. I guess you could sorta make that case with BTTF (first being on its own, 2 and 3 being connected more), but I think they added just enough things to make it flow nicely. Like how BTTF already ended with them flying away in the car, which obviously is the start of nr 2. I also love some of the foreshadowing in BTTF2, when Marty goes to Biff's casino in alt-1985, he sees footage of Mad Dog Tannen (from BTTF3), which was a really nice hint in retrospect considering we didn't know during BTTF2 that they would go to the western in nr 3.

I think you could look at the story arc over BTTF, BTTF2 and BTTF3 and it feels like one long journey. With The Matrix I feel like the original just feels so different from the other two. The first was so great because of tension and the fact that the agents were actually a serious threat, and if you fought them, you would most likely die. In the sequels they became a joke and Neo could basically fight a thousand of them by himself. They just had such a different feel to them, whereas BTTF has the same light-hearted feeling and spirit throughout.

I just love how Back To The Future 2 and 3 are basically the same structure as the first one just in a different time period.

Marty arrives in a time - gets in trouble with a Tannen - has a chase and / or a fight. Has to sort out a problem.

It's almost as if 2 & 3 are remakes of the first one in a different setting. 2 virtually is.

Oh, and I think the BttF trilogy ends badly. I mean, the very end, the final scene. Pretty much everything in the trilogy is fun and good enough, but that train Doc shows up with is the only thing in these movies I'd say is plain 'bad'. Even with the level of fun sillyness in those movies, I still call that jumping the shark. They could have ended it with some actual sense of consequence, with Doc actually being stuck back in 1885. Marty could have looked him up, reading about how he married Clara and lived happily or something and that would have been good. Great even. But in my opinion they ruined it with that train.

I can buy that he builds a time traveling delorean, no problem, but no, Doc did not build a time traveling train in the 1800s.

That's exactly what I don't like about them.  I didn't get three movies, I got one movie three times.

i was watching 3 and I properly laughed so hard at " Eastwood Ravine ".

I love stuff that they don't even bring attention to - but if you notice then it's hilarious.

Also the photo of the Tombstone slowly revealing the name "Clint Eastwood" - :rollin :rollin.

As much as I agree with you and I love this, I could also see why people would dislike the sequels for the exact same reason. There's a lot of things on the checklist that they get for every movie, and I could see how it would bother someone, even if I like it. For example, Marty waking up and saying he had a bad dream, and then his hilarious reaction when he finds out it wasn't a dream. Happens in all three, I still love it.  :lol
