You have Just Won £/$20m
« on: August 08, 2013, 10:18:34 AM »
Okay so you've won the lottery.

You have 20m in the bank.

Do you go crazy and get everything you wanted or just live comfortably and get a few nice things ?

I budget myself to $150k a year while investing the rest. When I croak, my kids get 10%, the wife get's 25%, and charities get the rest. I'd have a greenhouse / miniature observatory too  :hat.

I'm not very materialistic. I live in a studio flat and have my computer, guitar and amp and thats pretty much everything i Own. :lol

I don't see that changing all too much if i was a millionaire.

I'd get a nice house obviously and a home studio to make better music and indoor pool :P

I'd like to live comfortably and not have to worry about money again.

I'd have my own version of a lesser splooge, but yeah, I'd buy a shitload of high-end PC parts, a new car, and pay off a debt right off the bat. Then I'd live normally but with a little more freedom. I couldn't see that amount of money doing anything for me except making me more lazy though. I always hear people say "Oh I'd still work even if I had enough money to live completely comfortable for the rest of my life!" and I always think that's complete bullshit. Maybe, maybe not... But I personally would go along with that philosiphy for about a day before a customer or my boss pissed me off enough to say "Y'know what, I literally do not need this job. I do not want this job...um.....FUCK ALL YOU CRACKERS! I'M OUTIE LIKE A BELLY BUTTON!".

If I would have it *now*?

I'd leave it on the bank, apart from buying a car and some guitar stuff. Then I'd just finish my studies, so I can get a proper job. When I'm done studying, a house would be a first, the rest can happily sit in a sock under the bed.
Hey dude slow the fuck down so we can finish together at the same time.

If I won 20 million dollars this instant, then I would finish Pharmacy School, then I would try and do medical school, since ultimately the reason I didn't do it in the first place was because of money. With lack of money no longer being a problem, I would focus on a career in medicine and continue living my life just as I am now.

I definitely would not go crazy, and I would also choose to accept it in increments over the years, rather than a lump sum. And finally, and most importantly, I would accept it anonymously if I could.

Buy a few really nice things (cars, slightly bigger house).  Share with some of my family.  Then vacation the fuck out of the rest of my life.

Invest half in a trust for my kids and grandkids. Pay off my kid's college debt. Travel, travel, travel and then travel again until Mrs P. and I shuffle off this mortal coil.

Go to Berklee, pay off my brother and sister's college stuff, keep $500k for myself, and give the rest to friends and family.

I'd build a house that functions fully on solar energy, with a greenhouse and and a basketball hoop. Then safely invest the rest to make sure I can live off from that income for the rest of my life.

Buy a house and payoff the rest of my car, maybe take some more exotic vacations every year. I don't have any real debt, I love my job, and I don't need/want many things I can't alread afford. So for the most part I'd just keep going the way I already am.

I've been unemployed since January and I could quite happily continue to do nothing all day every day . The only difference is - i'd have money to buy nice

food to live in and eat at nice restaurants and I would continue to work on my music and take a LONG overdue holiday.

You could if you live normally, the interest on 20m would be quite a bit and could enough to live on.

  • Pay off all of the debt my family members have
  • Pay off my house
  • Buy my wife the little red Porsche she's always wanted
  • Setup trust funds for college tuition for my nieces and nephews
  • Throw a huge party at my house
  • Hire Dream Theater to play at the above party, with Iron Maiden as co-headliner
  • Build and fully equip a killer music studio
  • Buy 1 of every model guitar that Paul Reed Smith makes
  • Get my wife a box of chocolates

I would settle my debts, get a house, and set my kid up for success with a nice amount. Then I would rent a mobile home and spend a year touring America and Canada. Then it's off to other countries, Ireland first of course.

Pay off all my debts, buy a house and a car, go back to school. Learn how to invest and turn that $20 million into more money, then become an eccentric rich guy who funds video games and movies and animes and stuff.

Live comfortably and get a few nice things.

A house, maybe a new car, kids college tuition.....invest enough to live off the interest

Pay off my house. Pay all of my parent's and sister's bills and homes (same for my wife).  I would set aside $1 million as the friend fund wherein I would pay off cars or other large expenses rather than just giving them money.  Then, I would save the rest and travel as much as possible.

For real, first thing I would do is to donate half of that money, or $10M, to both my local SPCA and the Community Chest. There are poor animals, and people needing help more than me needing all that money.  :hat
