Deep Purple Now What?! appreciation thread

I just love this album. I found Purpendicular to be okay, but as much as I love Steve Morse, it never felt cohesive to me. Consequently, I never followed the current incarnation of DP.

Now What, though, is fantastic. Just a solid album all the way through. Not a song I don't like. Terrific playing and songwriting, IMO. It's also quite proggy in places.

What say you?

I just listened to the album and then I see this thread. I really like the proggier moments on the album. Kinda reminds me of my favorite DP album,Burn.

It's pretty decent. Nice to hear these guys still have a little bit left in the tank.

It's a really great album, probably their best since Perfect Strangers.

Truly a great record! To me it is one most original and inspired in DP's discography. :tup

I love DP but haven't really been into them for a while.  Still want to check this out.

I thought Purpendicular and Bananas were amazing and Abandon and Raptures kinda sucked.  Typically if I like a band, I like the entire catalog but DP has been on an "every other album" track with me.  Perfect Strangers kicked ass and House of Blue Light sucked.  Slaves & Masters kicked ass and Battle Rages On was mediocre.

Mark III Purple was excellent and Mark IV was underrated.

Anyway, need to pick the new one up but its not a top priority for me now.

Agreed. Purple are VERY inconsistent, even on the same album. Only recently I heard Bananas in full, and it has its ups and downs. I got the new album yesterday, but havenīt heard it all yet. But it sounds great so far!
