^ Yeah, I listen to Danzig too; you know, after they broke up? He's like a mixture of Billy Idol and Jim Morrison, it's great.

Cool, so Danzig would be the album to start off with I presume?

The first three Danzig albums are total sex. He's one of my favorite singers of all time.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

Descendants

Only punk band I've ever listened to.  They are flat out awesome.  Rather humorous at times also.  Glad to see that I'm not the only one who listens to them.   :tup

Yesterday I listened to a lot of Discharge: Realities Of War, Fight Back, Decontrol, and Never Again are pretty cool EPs for a band's debut period. Why is a killer EP along with their first studio album, Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing, is pretty fucking awesome. Different hardcore/crust/D-Beat to American bands.

Then I listened to Refused's The Shape Of Punk To Come which is a very good album. After that, I got out my old Black Flag I hadn't listened to in nearly a year and it's better than ever! So I have Nervous Breakdown, Jealous Again, and the Six Pack EPs. Now I'm listening to Damaged, it's really rocking! Good old Hardcore Punk.

I listened to Smash by Offspring a few times recently. Brought back good memories as it was the first cd I owned. I still find it very enjoyable. I thought I was the coolest kid in 4th grade listening to Bad Habit with all the curses.

Gotta chime in to echo the love for Danzing/Misfits and Descendents from earlier in the thread!  Glenn is a top 5 all time singer in my book, and Descendents are my favorite punk band.  I was a big punk rock head back in late junior high/early high school, and I've been dusting off alot of my old cds from that era and ripping them to my itunes finally so I've been spinning some of this stuff recently.  Descendents almost remind me a bit of Coheed, what with the mix of agression, poppy/catchyness and unconventional riffage and song structures (for punk anyway).   :metal

Anyone familiar with the Descendents album Everything Sucks?  They put it out in the mid-nineties ('96 I think?) after not really doing anything since the '80s, so it was sort of a reunion album for them.  All the awesomeness of the classic albums with much better production values.  To me it's one of those albums where every track is a winner, I highly recommend it!

I went through a huge punk phase as a high school freshman. Not really as into it anymore, but I still really like a lot of very strongly punk influenced bands. (early modest mouse as an example)

I've always had a thing for punk, especially native bands. In Sweden we have something called "Trallpunk" which basically means uplifting punk music and most of those bands are still going strong and have a pretty strong underground fanbase.

Lastkaj 14 - Visst fan har vi kul (Of course we have fun)
DLK - Hockeyfrilla (Mullet)
Asta Kask - Politisk Tortyr (Political Torture)
Radioaktiva Räkor - Bakom Spegeln (Behind the mirror)
Räserbajs - Fina Flickor (fiser inte) (Nice girls don't fart)

I found on youtube this old AFI concert from Casino Skate Park in Asbury Park, NJ 1999.  It totally reminds me of the punk/ska scene here in NJ during the late 90s when I was only a teenager.  I wish I could experience a show like this for one of my favorite bands now.  It would be insane.  I saw AFI and met the singer around this same time (not at this show).

I would definitely recommend OFF! if you're looking for 80's style hardcore.  First off, the band's frontman is no other than Keith Morris (Circle Jerks, Black Flag).  That alone is enough for anyone to try their music out.  The album covers are done by Raymond Pettibon (that's another Black Flag connection).  I didn't even mention the rest of the members of Keith's band (you'll just have to find that out for yourself if you're really interested  :azn:).

The two album releases--The First Four EPs and OFF! are some of the the best short shots of aggression in ages.

My Ipod just threw out these albums consecutively and it got me in the mood to talk punk!! Seriously two of my favourite punk bands (NOFX are my #1 actually!!)

This thread has been dead for a few years but can't see any other punk related one. Lots of great bands already discussed but a shit ton I could recommend that haven't been mentioned if anyone feels like exploring punk in all it's glory. I love a variety of punk with a special love for skate/ska/pop/crust. Lets be honest most of my love has stemmed from the first time I picked up Tony Hawk's Pro Skater on the Playstation, as did many others. Those soundtracks were the best, especially the first 3. If anyone likes music off those games and wants a hit of what is essentially anti-prog then  :metal
