Grindcore is awesome. It's not for always, but a nice kick in the teeth is needed every once in awhile, and grindcore shows are some of the best live shows you can go to.

Gridlink, Cretin, Columns, Rotten Sound, Wormrot are all pretty friggin great, and there's countless other great grindcore bands as well.

Guitar play through for a new song from Gorod's upcoming album. Song is called Celestial Nature. Radical as heck.

Metalsucks have begun their "Albums That Will Fuck Your Face Off In 2015" run, and the first band they've shown is a pretty nasty grindcore band called Organ Dealer. They've only got a demo right now, although they have a full length ready for release. Good fucking stuff.

Any fans of A Forest of Stars Here? In case you haven't heard of them, they play psychedelic Victorian black metal. Their new song is absolutely amazing. Can't wait for the new album!

Another new Psycroptic song has been debuted, with a nice little video as well. This is shaping up to be a year favorite, Psycroptic are about on point as a band can possibly be.

Psycroptic are well cool, I just wish they would add guitar solos once in a while. It would a ton of depth to their sound.

Eh, I like that they don't really do that, the music is already insane enough, I like that they don't wast time with solos to add unnecessary flair when their musicianship is already ridiculous.

I can't get over how good the 3 songs they've shown have been. I really don't want to wait any longer for the album to come out. While I really liked their last album, this one's shaping up to be out of this world. I love when bands can step up their game with each release. These guys are so underrated.

I mean, obviously their music is very good, and I'm not saying that they should solo on every track for at least half a minute. But there are quite a few tracks where a solo would fit in very well, I think, and it would add a ton of depth to their sound when used correctly.

Still kickass though, and I can't wait for their album. :metal

Ensiferum are premiering their new album on Spotify one new song per day.
https://www.decibelmagazine.com/uncategorized/ensiferum-premieres-new-album-on-spotify/

Really like what I'm hearing from it so far. If this trend continues it'll easily beat Unsung Heroes.

On another note, those new Psycroptic songs sound killer. Can't wait for the new album!

Got the Ensiferum pre ordered, heard the title cut and that was more than enough to convince me that One mna Army is a return to form.

What's new in the world of doom metal?  I used to listen to doom and black metal a lot but it's been a while. I was a huge fan of My Dying Bride and Anathema years ago.  My friend plays in Evoken, who have become pretty well known in the doom metal world.

Well there's a few things happening, there's this band called Pallbearer that are like the bee's knees. Clean vocals, aside from one song all of their songs are 8+ minutes and they never overstay their welcome. Great musicianship and they great crafters of song. And then there's Usnea who play Doom laced with Death Metal and their album last year was in my top 5, the guys blow me away.
There's also this band called Elder and they're coming out with an album called Lore which is just wonderful as well. I'll leave it at that for now but I love me some Doom Metal, especially when it's laced with other stuff!

Pallbearer released a new album last year called Foundations of Burden that was really good. Yob also released the best (IMO) stoner/doom/post metal album of the year last year called Clearing The Path To Ascend. Excellent, excellent album, but they've been around for quite a while so I wouldn't exactly call them 'new.' There's also Finnish band Kuolemanlaakso. They also released a new album last year, Tulijoutsen, which was also really damn good. They play more death-doom than straight up doom and their lyrics are all in Finnish, so if that bugs you then you might want to skip these guys. I think they only have two albums and an EP out so they're fairly new.

Pallbearer and Yob are fantastic.

If you like them definitely check out Earth's latest album "Primitive and Deadly." It's not quite as dynamic as the other two, but it makes up for that with its atmosphere.

I checked out Pallbearer briefly and I wasn't too blown away by it yet.  The music is good, but something about the vocals is throwing me off.  I also checked out a couple of Usnea tracks and I really liked it.  That's more along the lines of what I like.  Something dark and dreary.  I want to weep when I hear it and feel like slitting my wrists six ways from Sunday. That's how I like my doom.  Nortt is perfect when it comes to that.  It makes me want to ride in a hearse with the music blaring from the speakers.

I'm listening to Yob right now and I'm reallly getting into it.

Yes!  I thought most doom metal sounded the same until I heard these guys.  I think someone referred to them as funeral doom metal.  It's just so fucking dreary and makes you want to crawl into a hole and let the rain wash you away.

Relapse Records has a free sampler for download commemorating their 25 year anniversary. It has 184 songs on it.  Check it out.  It asks for a donation but you can just put 0 if you want it for free. I'm downloading it now.  I remember when I worked at the local college radio station i would love getting the Relapse samplers.  There are always some interesting bands on there to be discovered.

Got my promo of the new Barren Earth album the other day and it's killer. The new singer is so damn good. The Vault is definitely one of their best songs.

The new A Forest of Stars album is pretty good, but I'm not liking it quite as much as the last one. That said, it's really dense (like all of their albums) so it needs more time to soak in.

And there's this atmospheric black metal band called Ghost Bath that just put out a new album called Moonlover. If you're a Deafheaven fan check this out immediately. Seriously, this is some phenomenal stuff.

I'm really looking forward to hearing the new Barren Earth, the debut is a classic, the follow up I wasn't too fussed about though.

Yeah, the vocals are awesome. They convey so much intensity and emotion. I can't understand the lyrics at all but I can still feel a strong connection with the vocals and music.
