I've been buying a lot of CDs lately...  here are some notable purchases:

Porcupine Tree - Stupid Dream
Lost Highway - Soundtrack (found it for a buck)
Frank Turner - Tape Deck Heart
A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step
The Who - Who's Next
Black Sabbath - Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath

The only new disc was the Frank Turner, the rest were used.
In high school my buddies and I built a Van Der Graaf generator.  You know, to get girls.

Just got the following:

Sonata Arctica - Ecliptica
Sonata Arctica - Silence
Sonata Arctica - Winterheart's Guild

Cmdistro is having a free shipping weekend and all of these were $5. I've been wanting to pick up some SA for a while now so this was, IMO, the perfect way to start!

Good haul. They can be a bit of an acquired taste and the lyrics are often cheesy, but the music is fantastic. I think it would be best to hear all their album's in order if you plan to keep going to see how they evolved over the years.

The first 3 Sonata albums are great, but Unia is the definitely the best IMO. It can be harder to swallow, though.

As far as the lyrics go, they aren't about dragons and swords, so they're automatically MUCH less cheesy than those by most power metal bands.

Yeah, but then there's this: "I see you walking hand in hand with long-haired drummer of the band" and the deeply profound "Walking in the cool night air without underwear". So yeah...

What?

Dragons and swords is serious business, yo.

As I tend to do when I'm stressed, depressed and frustrated, I hit the local store and went on a spree. The results.....

Eagleheart- Dream Therapy
Vision Divine- Stream of Conciousness
Mastadon- Blood Mountain
Hammers of Misfortune- 17th Street
Holy Grail- Ride the Void
Nightingale- I

Actually, so far the Eagleheart one is leading the pack, but that's just after cursory listens.

Amazon had some weirdly cheap albums, so I "snatched up" a few.

The Black Keys - Attack and Release
The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely
Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
prog sucks
