Lots of new fans with SC. That's quite pleasant to see  :D DT's fan base is truly going uphill with recent albums and tours.

I never would have thought that there were so many on these forums in the SC category.

In 2004, I heard songs from SFAM in the Dragonball Z movie "The History of Trunks". I instantly became a huge fan.
So TOT era for me.

Started right after Scenes came out.  I was only 10 at the time, and was looking for stuff with awesome guitar solos (at that point the most impressive solo I'd heard was Stairway To Heaven and I thought it was like impossible to play).  Needless to say, after being recommended SFAM, my world was rocked.  lol.

It was in 98, FII was already out, but my first record was I&W, then Awake, then FII. Been a fan ever since.

Images and Word but it was until 1994 that I first heard it in my dad's car, always wanting to go on long distances just to hear it.

It's interesting to see how many fans got into DT because of the evil and absolutely awful SC. :neverusethis:

First one I heard was Awake, I borrowed it from my German neighbor (who has lots of cool music), along with Falling Into Infinity.

Well technically I got into them when their latest album was SC, but I got into them by hearing Pull Me Under on yes, Guitar Hero *shame*. I immediately got SDOiT and looooved it, and have worked through all the albums, weirdly getting SC last, even after BC&SL.

2003ish

Around when Train of  Thought came out. I'd been into metal since I was about 8 year old but only came across DT when a guy I know bought train of thought and told me it was kind of cool. I remember listening to a track or two at his house and thinking it was pretty cool, worth checking out. I bought Train of Though while on holidays in Spain (in Barcelona if memory serves). I then robbed my sisters CDman (I only had an mp3 player with me and no laptop to rip the cd haha, how times change) and must've listened to it about 20 times throughout the holiday, I absolutely loved it. On the last day of the holiday I went in search of a DVD, at the time not even knowing if one existed. Came across Live Scenes and bought it. I remember finally getting home at around 3am and even though I was tired from travelling instantly sticking on the DVD. I was blown away, Train of Thought was amazing but Scenes was something else entirely. I picked up the rest of their catalogue pretty swiftly and have been a big fan every since. Scenes remains my favourite album by them, and a strong contender for my favourite album of all time.

I'm really surprised to see so many people here got into DT relatively recently (guess I did too considering the lifetime of the band). I guess a lot of it had to do with the switch to Roadrunner and the increased publicity and games like Guitar Hero etc. One bonus of getting into a band 10 years or so into their career is the amount of material you get to enjoy without having to wait for a new release. Hell I still haven't fully absorbed all of DT's catalogue yet and I've listening to them a LOT for about 6 years. I feel each one of their albums deserves a lot of attention and as such I am slowly but surely going through them all in detail.

2003. SDOIT was the latest release, and I became interested after hearing some of Awake while my brother was playing it. So I started spinning some of their albums, got hooked, and within a month or two I was a fairly strong fan, which was convenient since I wanted to go see Fates Warning (who were opening for DT that tour). It's a shame I hadn't gotten into Queensryche yet at that point, because that really would've made it one hell of a show for me.

So, I'm new here and I think that this is the best topic where I can start!

My first listen is in 2004 when my friend gave me ToT cd. I looked the cover and said "wtf! What is that?". I had listen RHCP and some other rock music so I can't expect good music.  I took the cd in the player and then  :omg: . So rest of story is history...
Do you even whahíbrido pickingant?

A friend of mine lent me the Live at Budokan DVD back in high school when it first came out. That was my introduction.

Well, though I wasn't aware of it it was probably whenever I watched that DBZ movie. Other than that, I bought SFAM in order to take advantage of a 2/$20 CD sale in late 2006/early 2007

When i was 7, my dad put on "The Great Debate" in his truck, and i just listened to it over and over. After that, it was In The Name Of God.

I was raised on a strict diet of Dream Theater and Incubus.

I'm probably one of the newest fans here. First CD I got was Octavarium because I heard Panic Attack on Rock Band 2. LaBries vocals, the solo work of Petrucci and Jordan with Portnoy's frantic drumming made me want more. So between that date last summer and about 2 months ago I made it my mission to get every other CD I could find. Got them all now. Started my work on the live DVDs. In for life.

Funny back story. In 2006 I worked on the Nascar themed roller-coaster at the Sahara casino in Vegas. The music they played was an "arena rock" station that played your run of the mill late 80's early 90's rock. I knew most of the songs but every now and then I heard this one song I wasn't too familiar with. I found out a few months ago that the song was of course "Pull Me Under" when I bought Images & Words... took me long enough.
