2003ish
Around when Train of Thought came out. I'd been into metal since I was about 8 year old but only came across DT when a guy I know bought train of thought and told me it was kind of cool. I remember listening to a track or two at his house and thinking it was pretty cool, worth checking out. I bought Train of Though while on holidays in Spain (in Barcelona if memory serves). I then robbed my sisters CDman (I only had an mp3 player with me and no laptop to rip the cd haha, how times change) and must've listened to it about 20 times throughout the holiday, I absolutely loved it. On the last day of the holiday I went in search of a DVD, at the time not even knowing if one existed. Came across Live Scenes and bought it. I remember finally getting home at around 3am and even though I was tired from travelling instantly sticking on the DVD. I was blown away, Train of Thought was amazing but Scenes was something else entirely. I picked up the rest of their catalogue pretty swiftly and have been a big fan every since. Scenes remains my favourite album by them, and a strong contender for my favourite album of all time.
I'm really surprised to see so many people here got into DT relatively recently (guess I did too considering the lifetime of the band). I guess a lot of it had to do with the switch to Roadrunner and the increased publicity and games like Guitar Hero etc. One bonus of getting into a band 10 years or so into their career is the amount of material you get to enjoy without having to wait for a new release. Hell I still haven't fully absorbed all of DT's catalogue yet and I've listening to them a LOT for about 6 years. I feel each one of their albums deserves a lot of attention and as such I am slowly but surely going through them all in detail.
