Foals v. Life is Yours (2022)
« on: February 12, 2013, 10:53:20 AM »
Fans? anyone check out their new record "Holy Fire" that dropped today?

I'm finding it pretty good, but given how much I dig both Antidotes and their last record Total Life Forever, I'm wondering if I'll find it to be as good or addictive as those other 2.

I really liked Total Live Forever, never got around to listening to Antidotes though. I was planning on picking the new album up today along with some books I've been meaning to read, but then my laziness forced me to stay home. What is Antidotes like, compared to TLF?

I haven't listened to too much of their stuff, but Spanish Sahara is absolutely stunning. Put the volume on max, and just let it blow me away every single time. I'd be interested in checking them out in concert...

bump.

their new record "What Went Down" was released today,

and damn it is crazy bloody good!

Every song is strong really. I think my early favorites are "Lonely Hunter" "Mountain at My Gates" and "Give it All" although this is one of those records, I can't find a weak track. It already is creeping into my AotY race. I think musically it's a blend of Holy Fire and Total Life Forever, with some new elements (wall-of-sound, soulful/groove elements).

Here's the opening title track which is quite good as well, and one of the heavier tracks on it

Two days ago I bought all four studio albums in one go.  :lol I've had these guys on my radar since Holy Fire came out (kept confusing "Inhaler" with The Features' "How It Starts" back in 2013) but "Mountain At My Gates" and "Birch Tree" are so good that it felt like the right time to dive in.

Really dig the opening track and the video: https://youtu.be/iuQQIawCqBA

First Foals track I really dig. Somehow I can't get into them but this song is a start.

What Went Down is really not doing it for me. Just doesn't have the highlights and the catchy tunes that Holy Fire did.  :-\

yeah certainly.

For me, they have yet to release a bad album, so to get not 1, but 2 new releases from them is definitely something to look forward to.

Their longtime bassist Walter Gervers did leave the band last year, so that may impact how these albums are, although I find the band is largely driven by Yannis their singer/guitarist. But it sounds like Gervers did play on these 2 albums.

I listened to most of Part 1 yesterday. Actually only because they've borrowed the bass player from Everything Everything for their tour and I love them.

Intrigued so far.

New album sounds pretty nice, interesting direction yet again. Although I really liked the heavier direction of What Went Down and tracks like Inhaler.

Part 2 may have more of those heavier tracks from 1 or 2 interviews I saw on YouTube with the band.
