Haven't been able to judge anything yet, I'm really really busy again. I might start judging tomorrow, but if I don't, I'll definitely start this weekend. Next week is a bit less busy, so I'll probably be able to finish it in a few days.

Considering my song's 74 minutes long, it'll take a while.

How are we on this, Onno?
I'm almost finished (judged 7/10 songs so far). The 3 entries left are already reasonably long, but I should be done by Thursday or so. Maybe earlier.

Considering my song's 74 minutes long, it'll take a while.
Yep, but I've already judged your song.

It's been pretty easy for me to remain patient since I know I have zero chance to win and about 10 times the chance of worsening my rank than improving upon it.

ROUND 10 RESULTS

Lolzeez: Yes – Close to the Edge

The second Yes song I’ve received during this roulette. Although I admire the instrumental parts and the skill of the musicians, I don’t like the vocals very much and overall, it just doesn’t interest me that much, sorry.

7.0/10

black_floyd: Vinnie Moore – Hero Without Honor

I didn’t miss your comment on the youtube video for this one.... :lol

“Sometimes when I'm constipated, I put this song on and then the turds march triumphantly out in a blaze of glory.”

Anyway, for me this is a case of doubt. It’s a 7 minute long instrumental, how can it be an epic? Still, it has lots of variation and different melodies and riffs, and it sounds epic like, so I’ll give you the benefit of doubt. It’s a good song, but it’s not really much more than that for me. The solos are great, but that’s about it.

7.3/10

crazyaga: Godspeed You! Black Emperor – Sleep

More postrock... This song was decent, but after a few listens I’d had enough. It’s just not really my thing, though it’s really good in terms of quality.

7.4/10

Elite: Shadow Gallery – First Light

The second longest song this round. Well, where do I start? The intro is great, very Pink Floyd like. The vocals are good too. The rest of the song is good and includes some great instrumental parts. The silent bit in the middle feels a bit out of place and random, but the outro after that is great.
Overall, this is a decent song. It’s not really amazing, but it’s good.

7.8/10

Scorpion: Grayceon – We Can

This is one song that is a bit different from the others. The prominent use of the cello makes it sound very interesting, and the song has a bit more recurring themes/riffs/melodies. It’s really dreamy and beautiful, but the dreaminess makes it also a bit hard to focus on. It’s a good song though.

7.9/10

MoraWintersoul: Fates Warning – Still Remains

Great epic. The instrumentals are great and it’s fun to listen to. I’m not too fond of the vocals, but they’re decent. The lyrics are great and the mix is great. Great song!

8.4/10

lonestar: The Deadstation – Like Peering Into The Deepest Ocean Abyss

Well, this sounds interesting. It’s a cool prog epic with a huge metal side to it, and some electronic/industrial influences too. The song starts out with a bang with the chaotic and heavy “Drugs For The Pain Inside”. It’s a great start to a great epic. The instrumentals are great and dynamic, and the vocals are good too. The pace of the epic changes with the next song, “August 4th – 3:21 AM”. That song is pretty beautiful and quiet, with some sad instrumental backings and a desperate sounding spoken word voice-over. It transitions nicely into the next song, “Anything But This... Anywhere But Here”. That song once again displays some of the chaos also present in the first part, but it’s a bit less heavy and more focused on vocals and melody. One last piano note ends this track and introduces the last part, “I Cannot Explain Myself Anymore”. This track nicely closes off the epic with a reprise of “Drugs For The Pain Inside”. Altogether, it’s a really great epic. Nice!

8.6/10

Dr. DTVT: Phideaux – Waiting For The Axe To Fall
Wow, this is great. It’s an epic in prog rock style, with little to no metal influences. I’m not too fond of the male vocals, but the female vocals are amazing! The lyrics are great, and the instrumentals are fantastic, especially the keyboard/orchestral parts and the piano bits. Each different part of the song is great, but my favourite part by far is “The Claws of a Crayfish”. It has the best vocals, some great piano bits and epic melody. Great song!

8.8/10

Nihil-Morari: Fantômas – Delìrium Còrdia

Wow, now this is different. You’ve got balls for sending me an ambient/drone/whatever-this-is-that’s-not-really-a-typical-epic. This is very haunting and very intriguing indeed. I like it way more than I expected. It’s not suited for background music at all though, but that’s not what I asked for anyway. So, this is really cool, and really different. Nice.

8.8/10

Big Hath: Soul Secret – Aftermath

This is really good! It’s a fantastic prog metal epic. Everything is just great: the vocals, all the instrumentals, the solos, the melodies, the lyrics... Even the mix is good. I really love this!

9.0/10

Thanks Onno for doing this. I've had a great time, and I'll be sure to reread the thread once, when I want to try some new music. Good thing that you could handle the Fantomas. It's not a song I enjoy listening to, but I have to hear it every now and than, it's just too dark, horrible, horrid and makes me feel miserable like almost no other song ever has.

And: Third Place!  :)

Congrats Big Hath!

I was going to send you Ivory Gate of Dreams by Fates Warning, but I didn't think you'd like John Arch's vocals, he's an acquired taste.  Hopefully I made a new Phideaux fan out of you.

oh wow!  I am glad you found some interesting music in this roulette.  I am quite humbled by the messages of congratulations.  I certainly didn't think I would be at the top.

lonestar, The Deadstation was almost sent by me as well.  It was in the mix when I was deciding between 3 songs.  It's really great stuff.

Onno, awesome roulette!  Very fun to participate in.  Great job!
