Rivendell

It's a quaint song that really tips it's hat to Led Zeppelin in both subject matter and style, but it's dated and very cheesy.

Rivendell. It's too much cheese for my tastes.

Rivendell

I never really liked their first two albums, hardly anything here gets me going. The good stuff started with Caress of steel for me.

Another album I just adore.   When I discovered Rush, I was 12, and Signals was new.   I was so deep in my Rush fandom...that all I did was play those first 11 albums in an endless loop (this includes ATWAS and ESL).   I never stopped or skipped a single track.   I did that for two straight years until GUP came out...and then I just added it to my rotation.

There is not a single song from these first eleven albums that was not performed by a 13 year old Ben "Jammin" Straley to an audience of 100,000 screaming fans in my bedroom mirror....armed only with a tennis racket.

But as much as I love every track, and know every single note.    Rivendell must go..

I'm stunned that anyone's voting for anything other than Rivendell...  Oh well, pleasant surprises are what theses forums are all about.

Rivendell is a bit of an oddball on the album, and in a way, that makes it one of the more memorable tracks.

Rivendell biting the dust first was predictable, but I am disappointed to see 4 of the 7 non-Rivendell votes going to Making Memories. I think that is the most underrated song of the pre-2112 years.  A very fun and upbeat song that sounds like it was written on a road trip...because it was! :coolio

Agreed.  That was one of the very first songs I ever learned to play on guitar.   Still play it at family gatherings to this day.   Great tune.

The music is cool, but the lyrics are just so trite.  Lots of clichés, twisted a bit so that they rhyme.  Then the whole thing is repeated after they go from mellow to heavy.  There's literally no difference.  I suppose that that alone could be interesting, how the meaning changes with the mood, but nothing actually changes, and even in junior high I remember thinking that it was just kinda cheesy.

Oh well, if we all liked the same songs, then there wouldn't be any need for polls and survivors.

I've never gone nuts over In the End.  I mean, it's a solid tune, but nothing noteworthy at all.
