In this post I will capture the essence of every Dream Theater album. The first line is the song style. Then

length. Then the title of the song in (parenthesis).

Dream Theater - A Title Less Lame Than Most Prog Metal
1. Opening song Pt 1. Sounds Kind of Familiar 8:12
(Angry Faces And Sad Buttholes)
John Petrucci

Description:This song sounds familiar enough to dream theater that you be all like dang!

2. For Some Reason The First Ballad 4:15
John Petrucci
(Introspective Cliches)

Description: I like how a lot of dt albums have the slowest song second. And by like I mean am confused.

3. Poppy Generic Rocks 6:50
John Petrucci
Title to include following metalesque words like (Redemption Within or Enraged Teardrops)

Description: Up in the sky! It's Linkin Park! It's Chevelle! It's 2010s Pop Metal!

4.Possible Ballad 2: Not Completely A Ballad Pt.1 aka A Ballad's Possibility 6:34
James LaBrie
A title that explains nothing (The Gatekeeper's Book Depository)

Description:Everyone will argue whether or not this one is a ballad. It's more rockin than the first one. Maybe
It overstays it's welcome. Maybe it's too happy? This is the song that will probably be my favorite but

everyone else will think it sounds too 1980s.

5.I BET THIS ONE IS AN INSTRUMENTAL 7:44
John Petrucci
(Birdlike Disposition)

Description: It's not.

6.THIS ONE IS SO STRONK AND HEABY 10:50
John Petrucci
(Heavy Medal's)

Description: This is the heaviest song on the album. You'll like it. A few lame asses will tell you it's not
as good as The Glass Prison or The Mirror. It totally is as good.

7.First Song Written for the Album 11:25
John Myung
(Reflections, Tears, Heaven, Illusions, Dreams, Tought Process, Creativity, Mindfulness,)

Description: JOHN MYUNG WROTE THIS ONE. OH BOY!

8.The Big One That's Good Except That One Part You Hate because those notes are dumb. 18:16
John Petrucci
(The Title Is Lame)

Description. You see the length and either react THANK GOD or FUCK NO TOO MANY. Complain about

how bad it is. It will magically to some people be better than any song previously written for a year. After

that year everyone will say it's overrated except one guy who magically shows up in every thread to proclaim

it's strengths.

Bonus retro songs:
9.This One Is Too Long But It's Alright 12:37
(I Hate Your Opinions)
Mike Portnoy

Description: It sounds like Pantera except the Muse Section. It's a really neat song but for some reason has the

phrase "Ass Worship" in it which is confusing. But you'll get used to the phrase when they do it live and you

shout that part because it's really fun.

10. Best Song Ever Written 6:32
(RelationSHITS)
Kevin Moore

Description: It's the best song ever written. But everyone hates it. The biggest downfall is too many words for

lyrics that are way way too abstract. The other downfall is the song ends at 4:00 but then you hear radio dials

tuning in and random samples. At the end is a reprise of A Fortune In Lies because DAT BITCH MADE A

FORTUNE IN LIES AND NOW I PAY WITH A FORTUNE OF CRIES.

Imo It's still not ridiculous enough. Coma and Poisoned sound like they could be song names. For a hair metal album.

2. For Some Reason The First Ballad 4:15
John Petrucci
(Introspective Cliches)

Description: I like how a lot of dt albums have the slowest song second. And by like I mean am confused.
You're confused? Between Status Seeker, Caught in a Web, You Not Me, Overture 1928, Blind Faith, About to Crash, This Dying Soul, Forsaken, A Rite of Passage and Build Me Up, Break Me Down, I'm positively baffled.

If it's usually anything, track two's usually the heavy-ish radio single. The softest song's been second exactly twice - and there's probably a nugget in there, if anyone's still looking.

I guess I should have phrased it in such a way that at least in terms of energy drop off, I feel like Status Seeker, Another Day, You Not Me, Blind Faith, About To Crash, Forsaken, and A Rite Of Passage all bring the momentum down, obviously not in a bad way. But so much for trying the sarcastic humor post. I guess I should have posted the weird fanboy one with names such as A Clock On The Wall, and The Keeper Of Secrets and all the other overly serious prog titles. Dicks and Drugs (Money 4 Tha Hunnies: In God We Lust Pt. 1 Scene 2.)

I don't think the idea of satirising the structure of an average DT album was off-base, it'd just help if we'd actually recognised it as an average DT album!

With regret, I'm not entirely convinced it does capture the essence, is what I was really getting at.

Fair enough, but since there isn't an average Dream Theater Album really, I structured it like Octavarium, A little of Images and Words, and a little bit of ADTOE.

That's cool! I do get what you're saying about slowing the momentum, too. Forsaken, certainly, is quite restrained, if still rocky.

Dream Theater - An Evening Shift at McDonald's

1.Bow Before Me, Mortal Ones (16:32) (lyrics by Petrucci) - mostly consisting of guitar soloing that would make Yngwie Malmsteen think about chancing a career
2.A Lonely Forklift Blues (03:35) (lyrics by LaBrie) - a sad song about underrated vehicles
3.There Are Things That Aren't Taught on Hogwarts (07:57) (instrumental) - Rudess uses iPad, Continuum, MiniMoog and various other instruments
4.4/4 (08:53) (lyrics by Petrucci) - something very different to what the track title suggests
5.No, We Don't Know What Is Muse (04:27) (lyrics by Petrucci) - Never Enough meets Prophets of War
6.Too Many Cheeseburgers (12:16) (lyrics by LaBrie) - in the end, if listen very closely, you can hear JM burp! first time ever he does any vocal contribution to DT album
7.Fallen Skies from Above, Pure Stillness Shattered and Torn into the Night (18:59) (lyrics by Petrucci) - huge epic song, which lyrics will be analyzed to bits until JP tells in an interview that they are about eating mushrooms
8.Dark Tales Fulfilled (33:16) (lyrics by Myung/Petrucci) - the best DT song ever
I Not Ready
II Under the Control
III Glad to See You
