ok....we've done this many times.

and every time I call alot of you out for absolutely trashing Six Degrees then popping it right up there on your list. Sure albums can grow on you over time....but the negative feedback on at the board when that album came out required flame retardant.

Not that I don't like the albums towards the bottom. Falling Into Infinity used to be second or third, but it's slipped a little lately - and ended up at nine. It's more "what albums do you like a lot but not quite as much as the top five," rather than "favourite to LEAST FAVOURITE THIS ALBUM IS CRAP KILL IT."

Amazingly, to me, anyway, BC&SL has surpassed Scenes as my 3rd favorite album.  Can't approach 6DoiT or Images, but as an album, it just feels so much stronger than most of the catalog.

wow. i actualy just spent roughly 40 hours total in the past less than a week in a car, listening to Dream Theater while on a trip to Halifax and back. I listened to every single album randomly on the way there, then on the way back to Ottawa i listened to them in order. i'd never listened to all of the albums right after each other, and some of the albums id only listened to once or twice all at once. Listening to some albums right after each other actualy made some of them stand out more, most notably SFAM and Awake, both of which i had never really gotten into that much before now. It had never really struck me how much more complete if an album SFAM is, and how much easier it is to listen to... My basic favorites remain intact, but now id say it would go something like:

2. Octavarium
3. Scenes From a Memory
4. BC&SL
5. Systematic Chaos
6. Amake
7. Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence
8. Images and Words

Awake is just as I remember. A masterpiece
Scenes From a Memory is much better than I thought. Amazing album
Black Clouds is aging very well. ANTR, TSF and TCOT are in my top 15 DT songs
Images & Words is getting stale, might slide down further in the future.
Train of Thought is a superb album. There is a bit of filler, other than that, fun to listen to
Six Degrees is worse than I thought. TGP has been overplayed by me, and the rest of the songs don't particular interest me. Disc 2 is better than I remember, In my top 5 DT songs
Octavarium is better than I thought. Title track still my favourite DT song. Rest of the album still doesn't do too much for me
Falling Into Infinity is about the same as I thought. Solid
When Dream and Day is underrated. But still nowhere near DT's best
Systematic Chaos is just boring. Hasn't aged well at all. Apart from TDEN, I don't even touch this album these days.
