Wireless Routers; opinions on modern ones please!
« on: December 22, 2012, 05:17:36 AM »
So once I complete my move, I am going to spend on a better wireless router than I have used in the past. I want to keep it around $100.

As a preface, I do not prefer Netgear. That is my current router, and my late 2008 Macbook crashes it every couple of hours. I prefer to stay away from the brand, as my brother and sister in law also have problems with their Android Tablet hating their Netgear router.

I used to use Linksys, but they seem to be not as good as in the past?

I have heard DLink, but the reviews on Amazon.com for their current models are a little mixed.

This Macbook also crashed the uni-router I had with ATT like clockwork every 30 minutes, and actually I was not the only one. The other devices FYI we will have hooked to the network will be an iPad2 on iOS 5, Macbook 2008 on OS X10.8, iPhone 5 on iOS 6, Android HTC Evo on 2.2, Samsung Gs3 on 4.0, & PC laptop on Windows Vista. My to be built Windows 8 machine will be a desktop. Hopefully someone has experience using a similar array of devices.

Thanks!

After I got introduced UBNT doing some networking work years ago I have yet to find a better router.

www.ubnt.com

It'll cost around $50 for a good in home setup.

I just got a Billion router on a recommendation from a friend, and it's really good. It's replacing a Netcomm, which was so awful that I barely managed to use it a week before I had to ditch it.
The same friend has always sworn against Netgear anything, so I've never used them myself.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Netgear is terrible. Really the commercial stuff is where it's at.

What kind of range are you looking for? I have an Airport Express and it's great.
