System of a Down Thread
« on: July 19, 2009, 03:32:48 PM »
K I'm almost 93% sure you guys don't have a System of a Down thread, so imma go ahead and start it. Discuss the silliness/political-ness/rockiness that is SOAD.

Oh yeah, to start off, BEST LYRICS of some of there songs:

Chic N' Stu:
Go to the refrigerator....
doors closed.....
lights are out....
BOY ITS GETTING HOT!!!!

Bounce:
BOUNCE
pogo pogo pogo pogo pogo pogo pogo pogo
JUMP
pogo pogo pogo pogo pogo pogo pogo pogo

Sugar:
You know my girl she lashes out at me sometimes
and i just FUKIN KICK HER IN THE
oooo baaaby........she's okay

DISCUSS!

Big fan. And by fan I mean poser who only has Mezmorize, Hypnotize, and Toxicity. From other threads on them in the past, I get the feeling they've got a lot of unreleased material?

Dude get Steal this Album. It's not too be taking seriously. they have a hardcore song about pizza, for god's sake. But it's fun to listen to lyric wise and music wise.

Plus you don't seem like a poser as you're only missing one album.

Really good band. Their debut album is good but very overrated, but everything since has been mostly top-notch!

I know it's not just about pizza, there's all sort's of metaphors in there about advertising, but the actual lyrics talk about pizza. Pretty good stuff

I used to be a huge SOAD fanboy. No lie, right before it was DT, SOAD had my attention.

I love the debut, Toxicity, Steal This Album!, Mezmerize, and Hypnotize.

All of their unreleased stuff/side work is brilliant, too, such as:

Friik!!
Honey
Cherry
Temper
Storaged
Marmalade
Johnny
Forever
Blue
Patterns (Serj with Iommi)
Shame (SOAD with Wu-Tang)
Dam
Their cover of Snowblind
I may be missing some off the top of my head.

Yep. Favorite songs inlcude Chop Suey!, Aerials (see avatar for the beginning shot of the music video), Innervision, Hypnotize, and Marmalade. I don't listen to them very much at all anymore, though.

Cool band, though not the best live. Serj Tankian's Elect the Dead is pretty sweet too. I believe he's got a live DVD with an orchestra (like DT did) coming out sometime this year.

Anyway, great band, too bad about the hiatus.  Scars on Broadway is nothing in comparison, and Serj by himself just isn't the same.

SOAD was my fav band up until DT, and they're still my fav lyrically.
I mean, DT have some good lyrics, but SOAD lyrics just transcend everything else in every way possible (imagery - 'see the land, women chant, as they fly up to the sun', 'when they speak, we can peek through the windows of their mouth',  politics, humour - just listen to Johnny, and I love the metaphors - tankians solo album is best for these)

Love SOAD, just not every album.  Their earlier stuff is fantastic.  From the debut to Toxicity I listen to a lot, but I really dislike the lyrics in Hypnotize/Mezmerize.

lol

also, @OP Of all of the fantastic lyrics you could have included itt, you pick those?

SOAD are a good band who made 1 fantastic record (toxicity), 2 really good records (steal this album, toxicity), one pretty good record (debut), and one horrendous record (hypnotize)
Our job was to select someone to speak for everybody. And I just couldn't in good conscience vote for a person who doesn't believe in God. Someone who honestly thinks the other ninety five percent of us suffer from some form of mass delusion.

I included them, because they're silly. I know that SOAD has way more meaningful lyrics from other songs, but those always put a smile on my face.

SOAD is one of my all time favorite bands. The final chorus in Question with the galloping riff and Serj's vocals, AH it's amazing.

I've loved these guys for ages - one of the truely great mainstream metal bands.

Album ranking:

Steal this Album!
Toxicity
Mesmerise
Hypnotize
Self-titled

Toxicity and STA! are just... brilliant. Serj has a very unique voice and I wish they would get back together :(
