Back in my HS days, Aqualung was a huge mainstay for me.  The album strikes a perfect balance between light and shade, with airy acoustic songs and passages blending seamlessly with killer heavy riffs.

Aqualung is a great album. As great as it is, I still prefer Heavy Horses and Tales From The Wood over it.

18)Frank Zappa-Hot Rats (1969)

Sometimes, certain albums just suck you in. They make you a fan. You listen to the album to death. And then you buy the vinyl. And love it even more. And then you get into the genre. Nuff said. Amazing album. First two tracks are perfect. And the rest follows up nicely. This album, while tiring to listen to, is amazing and the best Zappa album ever.

Favorite song:Willie The Pimp

17)DT-SDOIT (2002)

You guys know what this is. Good shit.

Favorite Song:The Plastic Cage

16)Al Di Meola-Elegant Gypsy (1977)

Some of the best instrumentation work ever. It really is. This is one of the albums that got me into Jazz Fusion and one of the best. (It's quite high isn't it?) And here's the deal. Every song is perfect. Why isn't it number 1? It sometimes tires me. I have to be in the mood. That goes for many other bands like Opeth,Spock's Beard,The Mars Volta or Pat Metheny. (Hmmm… some Opeth would be fun to listen to after i'm done writing this…) The album is also TOO FUCKING SHORT. It leaves you hungry. Only 6 songs? Come on! Also, the song Race With Devil on Spanish Highway never fails to get me excited. Awesome song.

Favorite Song:Race With Devil on Spanish Highway

I'm familiar with Willie the pimp because I love Beefheart. However, I'm too lazy to check out Zappa's stuff just because there's way too much. And yeah, can't go wrong with Six degrees.  :tup

Six Degrees, nice.

Is the "easter egg" that Mike Portnoy was on both albums?
Perhaps you should ask bosk to reverse the "e" and "a" in the second half of your user name.

2 classics and 1 surprise.

"-This is the most predictable top 50 so far."

Mladen

Number 13 says it all.

15)Opeth-Blackwater Park (2001)

Sometimes an album needs to grow on you. This one took me a month. Listening to this every day, memorizing every damn thing. It was worth it. The Leaper Affinity is awesome,Bleak is perfect,Harvest is good,The Drapery Falls is perfect and so on… Every song kicks ass. But The Drapery Falls was the first song that i really liked. I love the clean vocals on the album. Especially on this track. Making Akerfeldt one of my favorite clean vocalists ever. Top 5 guaranteed. Anyways, the instrumental is also beyond amazing. The album is good at blowing me away and being timeless. I never get tired of it. Love it.

Favorite Opeth Song:The Drapery Falls

14)The Mars Volta-Amputechture (2006)

I love this album to death. It's heavy prog with a huge emphasis on heavy. The album has some of those moments where it makes my mind explode. Especially songs like Tetragrammaton and Day Of The Baphomets. I also love the opener,Vicarious Atonement. Amazing intro that fades into Tetragrammaton perfectly. Other songs like Meccamputechture and Viscera Eyes are also marvelous. But my favorite is Day Of The Baphomets. Like The Drappery Falls for Opeth, this was the album that got me into The Mars Volta. Also, love the cover.

Favorite Song:Day Of The Baphomets

13)Focus-X (2012)

Cover by Roger Dean  :hefdaddy

YES. A newly released album on my list.
-This is the most predictable top 50 so far.

Mladen

Eat it. Anyways,Focus changed their sound in this lp to a more jazz fusion driven prog rock band. This was prob my favorite release of 2012 and nobody gave two shits about it.This album needs to be heard. I'm not gonna say anything else. Just go and listen. Excuses for bad write ups  :tup

Favorite song: X Roads

Blackwater Park is awesome but I'm not too crazy about Amputechture. Only listened once and there were some great moments and some moments where I couldn't wait for the thing to end.

I've haven't heard many good things about the Focus album at all so I never bothered to listen to it. I guess I should give it a try.
